Speaker:

Gary: Hello, Monarch fans and welcome to the Hudson homers podcast.

2

:

I'm Gary, joined as always by CB.

3

:

We go one and two this weekend

down in San Marcos, Texas.

4

:

CB, how are you feeling

after this weekend?

5

:

CB: Well, you know, personally, I went and

saw some really good high school baseball.

6

:

Uh, got to see some really great programs

like Cox and Greenbar Christian and K.

7

:

Penry and even got to see the

Miller School with a future Hall of

8

:

Famer, Billy Wagner as a head coach.

9

:

So the baseball I experienced

in person was great.

10

:

The baseball that I had to, uh, Keep

up with through live stats and some

11

:

radio, uh, could have been better.

12

:

, it wasn't a great weekend for ODU.

13

:

Unfortunately.

14

:

Gary: Yeah, I had the

house to myself on Friday.

15

:

I was really excited to try out

the radio broadcast once I got

16

:

back from being out to have the live

stats, watch the end of the game.

17

:

But by the time I got home, I

That thing was basically over.

18

:

And I think we were in the

third or the fourth inning.

19

:

So, uh, that one was tough.

20

:

I was a good ball game on Saturday the

final, the second game of the doubleheader

21

:

on Saturday, they come back and win it.

22

:

But man, that Friday one that's one

of the ugliest baseball games I've

23

:

seen from ODU in a long, long time.

24

:

CB: Yeah, things just got away

from, you know, Jay Cassidy has been

25

:

extremely solid for ODU all year and

he just did not have a very good start.

26

:

I mean, we, he gave up six

runs and ending in two thirds.

27

:

Uh, Kellen Davis came on a relief.

28

:

I think Kellen that honestly this

point in the season, I'm sure

29

:

he's probably just getting tired.

30

:

You know, he didn't pitch last

year, but like a couple of games,

31

:

he was a red shirt the year before.

32

:

So it's been a few years.

33

:

And who knows how much he

pitched in the high school.

34

:

Honestly, uh, I think he's just

getting to a point where he's tired.

35

:

So he's kind of losing that magic.

36

:

I'm sure that that, uh, amazing breaking

ball isn't breaking as much as it used to.

37

:

Uh, Stephen Trone, who I was

kind of hoping would maybe fill

38

:

in some of that slack for, for

Kellan, is having the same thing.

39

:

He's come into games and, and hasn't

quite, uh, he's had some struggles,

40

:

uh, even after having some good times.

41

:

Um, and just pretty much anybody

who went to the mound for ODU

42

:

on, uh, on Friday just struggled.

43

:

Gary: It was a tough go

of it for the pitchers.

44

:

Uh, but we did have a great

way to start the game off.

45

:

TJ Aiken.

46

:

Recent guests of the podcast leads

off the game with the solo home run.

47

:

And you see that and you're like,

all right, these boys are here to

48

:

play on a road series on the weekend.

49

:

We've really struggled on those

Friday away games to get going early.

50

:

But he hit one and that'll kind of lead

me here to the dollars for dingers update.

51

:

Uh, we are now at 43 home runs on the

seasons, 43 for dollars for dingers.

52

:

And on the bucks for bag side, we are at

72 stolen bases, 72 for 91 on the season.

53

:

So we stole some bags this weekend.

54

:

We hit some home runs.

55

:

We did not get the three wins,

but TJ Aiken starting us off with

56

:

that solo shot got my hopes up.

57

:

But then, it was some tough

sledding from there on.

58

:

I mean, the second inning kind

of melt down there where Texas

59

:

state put up seven on the board.

60

:

We just could not get an out.

61

:

It didn't matter if they hit the ball

hard, soft, it was, it was landing in

62

:

somewhere, just a really tough go of it.

63

:

So you're, you're going into the

top of the third at seven to one.

64

:

And that changed some

pitching plans for ODU.

65

:

CB: Typically they've used John

Hollibets on, in the Friday games.

66

:

I, I like Not using him in a game.

67

:

You're down seven to one.

68

:

Let's be real I'm, uh using my best arm

in that kind of game doesn't make a lot

69

:

of sense So, you know throughout the

guys who are who are not, you know The

70

:

guys you go to in in the the midst of

the the high pressure situations every

71

:

time Uh letting some of the younger

guys like hudson trobaugh marco lavari

72

:

and nick salpizio get in there um And

unfortunately, they all got rubbed down

73

:

at all at times throughout the season.

74

:

Sapizia have all thrown great.

75

:

They just unfortunately didn't, didn't

have, they all had a bad day on the same

76

:

day, and that just is going to happen

sometimes, but the good news is they

77

:

were able to save, uh, some of the arms

that were, are the more established arms.

78

:

And sometimes you got to

wear it and that's your job.

79

:

Gary: I will say there was one point there

in the fourth when I thought we had a

80

:

good chance to come back because we knew

that Texas state would give up some runs.

81

:

Maverick Stallings hits a two

run shot to left center to make

82

:

it eight to four in the fourth.

83

:

But just Texas state is what

they did the whole game.

84

:

They just kept coming back and they

kept putting more runs on the board.

85

:

They answered with two of their own in

the bottom of the fourth, three in the

86

:

fifth, five in the six, and then this one

ended, uh, early, uh, 18 to four, just.

87

:

Just a brutal game that I think

I put it out there on Twitter.

88

:

They just have to flush

that and go to the next day.

89

:

Because also at the end of the game

Friday, we found out that Saturday

90

:

was going to be a double header

because of all the crazy weather

91

:

that has been going through Texas.

92

:

It was forecasted for Sunday.

93

:

And some of that has been up in

North Texas around my parents are.

94

:

Uh, there have been some tornadoes and

all kinds of crazy things, so I'm glad

95

:

the guys are able to get out of there

a little bit early, make sure they got

96

:

back, so that way they are good to go

this week, but rough, rough way to start.

97

:

CB: Yeah, and like you

said Maverick Stallings.

98

:

He had a nice, we had a couple

of home runs the weekend.

99

:

Um, we'll get some deeper, some

stats, but Kyle Edwards and Ken

100

:

LaVarra continue to stay hot.

101

:

They both had two hits in the Friday game.

102

:

And tj, you know, he kept

him he kept himself going.

103

:

Well, so, you know a hitting

side Obviously four runs.

104

:

I think it's never going to be enough in

a college game But when you give up 18, I

105

:

think it bats change whether they should

or shouldn't but so Yep, so let's flush

106

:

it also and let's move forward to saturday

107

:

Gary: Well, there is one other thing

I want to mention from the game on

108

:

Friday because it had an impact.

109

:

CB: said flush it move on.

110

:

How dare you?

111

:

Gary: Well, this one's a

one you can't just flush.

112

:

Uh, Evan Holman was removed from

the game on Friday in the fourth.

113

:

Uh, appeared to be some sort of injury.

114

:

I don't know what it is.

115

:

Certainly not a doctor.

116

:

I think it's a shoulder situation.

117

:

Uh, but he was pulled from the game Friday

and we did not see him at all on Saturday.

118

:

Uh, Jack Slater, Jackson Tone,

uh, kind of stepped in there

119

:

and did a pretty good job.

120

:

Tone had a good day in the second game

on Saturday, but Evan has just been

121

:

so strong for us behind the plate.

122

:

His bat has been great in the lineup.

123

:

His on base percentage is actually

pretty high, especially for a

124

:

catcher, seeing a lot of good pitches.

125

:

Uh, he is someone that we are,

are hoping gets well very soon.

126

:

I doubt we'll see him Tuesday against

VCU, no matter how he's feeling, but he's

127

:

someone that we could desperately use to

be back in the lineup this next weekend.

128

:

All

129

:

CB: You were right.

130

:

We need to mention that.

131

:

Yeah.

132

:

No evan.

133

:

Yeah, I I hope he I hope it's okay I hope

it was just a little a little something.

134

:

He's played a lot of games.

135

:

Um, and, and hopefully, they

said, definitely, I'd be sure it

136

:

won't be out there Tuesday but

hopefully, it'll be Friday night.

137

:

We play App State at the Bud.

138

:

Evan will be back in there because he

has definitely been by far our best

139

:

defensive player and just an absolute

shutdown catcher been outstanding for us.

140

:

Gary: right.

141

:

We can officially flush Friday now and go

on to Saturday and kind of in a similar

142

:

fashion here, we get on the board early

with the solo home run, from Luke waters.

143

:

So Waters gets a solo shot.

144

:

We're up one to nothing.

145

:

I'm like, all right, we're in good shape.

146

:

Kept it one nothing until the fourth.

147

:

We get another run on the

board at the top of the fourth.

148

:

But then the bottom of the

fourth, things kind of fell

149

:

apart a little bit defensively.

150

:

CB: Yeah, we had, you know,

had some errors, kicked the

151

:

ball around a little bit.

152

:

And, you know, Ben Moore,

he's been very good this year.

153

:

I think he was just probably

out there a little bit longer.

154

:

And then part of that is probably having

used so many pitches the day before.

155

:

Um, so maybe the guys like Kellen Davis

and Steven Trone that you might've

156

:

brought in and that when runners on

base, he didn't have to bring in.

157

:

Uh, I know, uh, Bailey Mattel has

still been a little banged up.

158

:

He hasn't pitched in a while.

159

:

So you kind of found

yourself, which I do like.

160

:

Still having some of your

young guys figure it out and

161

:

try to work through things.

162

:

But just didn't uh, he kind of gave

up some runs and then Jacob Gomez

163

:

had probably his worst game of the

season Honestly four runs and three

164

:

innings we got six runs got a couple

there in the ninth Uh, but you know

165

:

again if you give up eight this this

was one of the few weekends where the

166

:

pitching Did not lead the way and you

really can't blame the hitting You

167

:

Gary: And I was a little surprised

with the pitching approach because

168

:

typically on the Saturday game or

the second game of a weekend series,

169

:

we've seen Blake Morgan start and

then Ben Moore come on in relief.

170

:

And then either Jacob Gomez or someone

else coming in the back end, if we

171

:

need to, to go into a save situation.

172

:

So I thought it was interesting that

Ben got the start, uh, obviously

173

:

starting was not a problem for him.

174

:

Cause he looked great through the

first three innings, uh, but he started

175

:

getting in that 40 plus pitch count.

176

:

And that's when they started hitting

them a little bit there in the fourth.

177

:

And then Jacob, I mean, I thought

he actually pitched pretty well.

178

:

He just made a couple of mistake

pitches and Texas state was

179

:

absolutely hammered him on it.

180

:

Uh, so it was.

181

:

It was tough to see those 2 guys go out

there and we were not able to get the win.

182

:

Uh, we did not lay down though, which

I think was really important that

183

:

we didn't just lose that game 8 2.

184

:

Like we got another run in the 8th, we

had the tying run on 1st base in the 9th.

185

:

Uh, Luke Waters was batting and he

absolutely smoked one to the left side.

186

:

Uh, it just happened to one hop

directly to the third baseman.

187

:

He stepped on third for the

force out to end the game.

188

:

Uh, but we put pressure on them there

in the later innings, they had to go

189

:

to another arm and their bullpen, which

is obviously great when you have a

190

:

second game of double header coming up.

191

:

So they, they fought back.

192

:

Uh, it was eight to six,

both teams had 10 hits.

193

:

I thought the pitching was improved

from the standpoint of they did not

194

:

have nearly as many walks and hit by

pitches as we saw on Friday, because

195

:

that was a huge problem on Friday.

196

:

Uh, but the pitching staff,

you know, through eight innings

197

:

only had one walk, didn't hit

anybody, just give up the 10 hits.

198

:

So not a terrible pitching performance.

199

:

It's just, they weren't that normal

elite high level that we're used to,

200

:

where they're only given up, you know,

three, four, maybe five runs a game.

201

:

We're just not built offensively

to score double digits with

202

:

any kind of consistency.

203

:

CB: Yeah.

204

:

I mean, as you break it down, Saturday is

a day where sometimes, sometimes they beat

205

:

you and you know, we, it seemed like, uh,

the Bobcats were a pretty good hitting

206

:

team and, and could pitch a little bit.

207

:

Um, I wonder if Ben Moore pitching

that game and then Blake pitching the

208

:

second game, if part of this is maybe

trying to move Ben into rotation.

209

:

Cause you notice we didn't see

Dylan Brown pitch this weekend.

210

:

Um, he's had some struggles.

211

:

He's had, he's hadn't really

gotten out of, uh, the second or

212

:

third inning a few times here.

213

:

Uh, so maybe that was the, the thought

process was they were just believing

214

:

Ben gave him a better chance to, to

win and it didn't matter necessarily.

215

:

Maybe they assumed Blake was

the guy they really wanted if we

216

:

really needed to win a third game.

217

:

Um, whether it was to salvage a game like

we had to or to try to win the series.

218

:

Gary: Yeah, and Ben has been great.

219

:

Even with giving up those

runs, he still had a 2.

220

:

61 ERA over 31 innings.

221

:

He's got 32 strikeouts in just nine walks.

222

:

So he's been fantastic.

223

:

Maybe got stretched a little long

or just, you know, second time

224

:

through the order, Texas state had

him squared up a little bit more.

225

:

Uh, we also did not see

Trent Buchanan this weekend.

226

:

Uh, John Holabat's kind of.

227

:

Slotted into his role in game

three coming on in relief.

228

:

Uh, so there should be some fresh

arms, which is good because we, we

229

:

do have a midweek this week and we

have a huge series against app state.

230

:

But you dropped the first two, you

were at least competitive and close

231

:

there in game one on Saturday.

232

:

Uh, but I felt really good going into

that final double header game because

233

:

I knew the arms that we had left.

234

:

We knew that Blake was going to start.

235

:

We knew hollow bets was available.

236

:

We knew Dylan Brown was available.

237

:

Trent Buchanan, Vincent

Bechera, Brandon Pond.

238

:

We had some amazing arms going into

the third game of that double header,

239

:

which is a blessing and a curse

from getting blown out on Friday.

240

:

CB: Yeah, and, the pitching

was able to hold them.

241

:

Texas state got a couple of garbage

runs there in the last inning.

242

:

Uh, but you know, Blake did a

good job starting off hollow bets.

243

:

I mean, he two runs in five and two thirds

innings, four walks and one strikeout.

244

:

That's actually one of his

worst performances in a while.

245

:

Uh, hollow bets has been on a roll.

246

:

Um, he's been, that's actually,

I pulled up his stats.

247

:

If you look at him since

he's gone in relief, Yeah.

248

:

Um, he's thrown 34 and two thirds innings,

11 walks, 29 strikeouts, 11 earned runs.

249

:

So that's a 286 ERA.

250

:

If you take out the coastal

game where he threw only two

251

:

innings, gave up eight runs.

252

:

So we just say that did never happened.

253

:

He would have 32 and two

thirds innings, only three runs.

254

:

That's a 0.

255

:

83 ERA since he's been in relief.

256

:

So even with that one terrible

game his numbers look pretty great.

257

:

Um, but his his era would be a full run

lower Uh as a reliever than as a starter

258

:

Gary: He's had some nasty stuff lately.

259

:

And both the runs that scored, uh,

on his stat line were actually,

260

:

uh, inherited runners when he

came out of the game there late.

261

:

Uh, so when he left the game, it

was nowhere in runs, but he had

262

:

some, some ducks left on the pond.

263

:

There didn't strike out.

264

:

A lot of guys only have one

strikeout and in four walks.

265

:

Uh, but he was pitching a contact and

they weren't able to get solid contact on.

266

:

I think is.

267

:

Is great, especially when you're trying

to keep your, your pitch count low.

268

:

I mean, he ended up at 86 pitches

in just under six innings.

269

:

I'll take that from a starter

reliever from anybody.

270

:

Bash came in, uh, he did hit one batter,

but he was able to get two outs and

271

:

then Brandon Pond finished it off.

272

:

Uh, it says he only got the, the one

out there, but in reality, he actually

273

:

got two because he struck out the first

batter, uh, but it was a wild pitch

274

:

and the runner reached, and then he got

a fly out to center to end the game.

275

:

Uh, but I thought he did a good job coming

into a true high leverage situation.

276

:

We haven't had a lot of those this

year where a reliever comes in directly

277

:

into high leverage in the ninth inning.

278

:

I think we've maybe only had

two or three this whole season,

279

:

which is really kind of weird

considering how many games we played.

280

:

CB: Yeah pond has been

doing really well lately.

281

:

He had that one game.

282

:

I don't remember who we were facing

He gave up like seven runs in like

283

:

an inning Um, and just was terrible

and since then he's been outstanding.

284

:

I think I said at the time on our

podcast here I said, you know, he's

285

:

gonna be a guy we're gonna need to step

up and play well And I fully believe

286

:

he would and he's proved me right.

287

:

Um, he's A big army.

288

:

The guy pitched a huge game last year

and helping his team win the division

289

:

three, uh, world series championship.

290

:

He's a big arm with a lot of

experience and he's coming up

291

:

big and he's a good situation.

292

:

So it's really nice to see that.

293

:

Gary: Yeah, absolutely.

294

:

And I also liked the way that our

offense came to life late in that game.

295

:

Uh, cause we scored one in the second

and then we were kind of down two to

296

:

one for a good portion of that game,

tied it in the sixth, but in the

297

:

seventh and the eighth, we had three

runs in the seventh, two in the eighth.

298

:

Uh, none bigger, I think, than

Alex Boucher's two run home run.

299

:

Nice to see him break out finally

after coming back from injury and

300

:

providing that big pop in the lineup

that we'd been missing a little bit.

301

:

Jackson Tone.

302

:

He went one for two in the

game with a double and a walk

303

:

subbing in there for Evan Holman.

304

:

That's great production at the plate.

305

:

I will take that all day long.

306

:

Uh, but just the offense pieced it

together, the pitching staff, in my

307

:

opinion, just kind of returned to

form of the great high level pitching

308

:

they've had, uh, this year, and

they were able to come out of there

309

:

with a, a seven to four victory.

310

:

It got a little sweaty there in the night.

311

:

That I'm not going to lie.

312

:

CB: At this point in the year,

nobody is fresh, nobody's healthy.

313

:

And you really do get a little

more into like, who knows what's

314

:

going to happen in any given pitch.

315

:

The guys who you've counted on all

year, it could not be their day.

316

:

You know, we, we saw

that, uh, this weekend.

317

:

It was nice to see Boucher get back.

318

:

Uh, TJ Aitken had a really nice

weekend with a three hit game in the

319

:

first game of that double header.

320

:

Uh, Kyle Edwards stayed hot.

321

:

Lavarie, he finally had his hitting

streak snapped, in that final game.

322

:

What I say 16 game hitting streak he

hit 381 with seven doubles five homers

323

:

and 17 rbis over that stretch So that's

and that's why uh, kenny finds himself.

324

:

I think he's now the second highest

batter on the team I mean going from

325

:

where he was to theirs is kind of crazy.

326

:

Gary: His turnaround this

season is, is fantastic.

327

:

And even though he didn't get a hit, he

still drove in a run in that final game.

328

:

So if you still have

productive at bats, uh, which.

329

:

I think for him and after talking to him

and getting to know him a little bit,

330

:

if he goes over four, but he's able to

do some things that helps the team win.

331

:

That's all he truly cares about.

332

:

Sorry to see the streak in,

but Hey, good, good time to

333

:

start your next hitting streak.

334

:

As we go into these last couple

of conference weekends, then

335

:

into the Sunbelt tournament.

336

:

CB: Yeah, we're gonna need it Um, and

so another so while i'm throwing out

337

:

stats, uh, kyle edwards had another good

weekend Just kind of two weeks in a row.

338

:

He's done great.

339

:

So the last two weeks Kyle is 13 for 33.

340

:

That's a 394 average, five

doubles, a triple and four steals.

341

:

Um, and again, TJ, TJ Aikins

continued to play well.

342

:

So in about the last 14 games

since he's been a starter.

343

:

17 for 54, 3 15 average, a double

triple, two homers, and nine rbis.

344

:

So there's a, freshmen kind of,

we, we need it all season for

345

:

somebody to take over left field

and, and TJ here has done it,

346

:

Gary: I think the coach

family would still agree.

347

:

He needs to get a little bit better

defensively out in left field.

348

:

I think there were a couple

of balls that may have dropped

349

:

in on him over the weekend.

350

:

Uh, not enough that would have swung

the results of any of these games.

351

:

But I know that he's going to continue

working at that, but happy to see him

352

:

hit, you know, worst case scenario.

353

:

If you want to get a better defensive

substitute in left, you can have him.

354

:

D.

355

:

H.

356

:

Cause I don't think we've had a ton

of production from that DH spot this

357

:

year, uh, aside from, you know, when

Boucher has been there because of injury.

358

:

So it just gives you another bat

that can be in that lineup that

359

:

can produce for you, and he has

taken that leadoff role quite well.

360

:

You start off a weekend series

with a solo home run, typically

361

:

good things will follow that.

362

:

It wasn't in this case, but if he keeps,

uh, keeps hitting leadoff bombs, that

363

:

is going to be a huge bonus for this

team going into the final stretch here.

364

:

CB: you know, and I was actually talking

to my dad about this, uh oh, it was

365

:

other day or yesterday about What I

like so much about TJ is I don't think

366

:

he's trying to hit a lead off bomb.

367

:

I think he's just trying to

put a good swing on the ball.

368

:

He's had a really good approach.

369

:

Um, he, he has no problem bunting.

370

:

He just wants to go up and be productive.

371

:

Like you just said about LaVarie, right?

372

:

You know, he, if I do something

productive, it doesn't really matter

373

:

if I hit the big home run or not.

374

:

And so that's, I think it's, it's been

good with TJ because I'm sure he, when

375

:

he hit those home runs, just a case of,

he was trying to put a good swing on the

376

:

ball, um, and that kind of approach is

exactly what we need every guy to do.

377

:

Gary: Absolutely, and definitely

shout out to Maverick Stallings.

378

:

He has really come on at the plate lately,

uh, adding a lot of power and pop to the

379

:

lineup, uh, which is, if you're getting

that from your second baseman, that is

380

:

fantastic, because that's typically not

a spot that's going to produce a ton

381

:

of runs for you, uh, but he's got his

average up to 266, uh, 777 OPS, he's

382

:

got six home runs driven and 16 runs,

so it's been nice to see him develop

383

:

a little bit more of a power game.

384

:

Uh, to fill in where maybe some other

guys are not hitting for the power that

385

:

they have, uh, in previous seasons.

386

:

CB: Yeah, Maverick's an excellent hitter.

387

:

Um, I think he was four for 11 of

the weekend with two homers, uh, and

388

:

his defense has been really good.

389

:

I think the start of the year he was kind

of coming out of games and that's not

390

:

a thing that's been happening lately.

391

:

I think he's, he's worked his

butt off to make sure he's even

392

:

better at second base than he was.

393

:

So it's, yeah, Maverick's a very

good player and, uh, and if he

394

:

could keep peaking here at the

end of the year, that'd be great.

395

:

Gary: Unfortunately this weekend

there was no video stream.

396

:

Uh, I'm not sure what Texas

State was broadcasting instead.

397

:

I'm sure they had some

other sports going on.

398

:

Uh, so we were stuck with a, a student

run radio broadcast in the live stats,

399

:

but for as much as we bagged on Marshall

and they're pretty terrible student

400

:

radio, uh, Texas state did a fantastic

job with their radio broadcast.

401

:

It was great to listen to

you can tell that they care.

402

:

They know the game.

403

:

They know the sport.

404

:

They know the teams.

405

:

They were even getting our pronunciations.

406

:

Right?

407

:

Uh, so if I'm going to bag on

Marshall for being bad, I'm going to

408

:

give Texas State credit for having

a really great radio broadcast.

409

:

CB: absolutely.

410

:

I think I said this on friday.

411

:

I said there's nothing wrong with the

broadcast other than how it's going

412

:

Uh, they're they were doing great.

413

:

I think and what we say was cameron

was a uh wheel I think that's how

414

:

they said it wasn't that it the their

415

:

Gary: Yeah, it was, it was actually wild.

416

:

So I went, so, I mean, even my

unintentional pun was, was incorrect,

417

:

but you know, I'm one, one on one

on guessing the pronunciations.

418

:

I guess I could just go to the roster

and find the pronunciation guide,

419

:

CB: Where's the fun in that we're not

we're not on this on the broadcast.

420

:

We don't got to do that

421

:

Gary: Exactly.

422

:

I know, uh, Pierce was a little nervous

to put out the radio, uh, link on all

423

:

the social media and I don't blame

him after Marshall, but we're both

424

:

like, ah, these guys are pretty good.

425

:

They're good.

426

:

Listen.

427

:

So that couple with the live stats

was, was at least the best substitute

428

:

you can have for not having video.

429

:

But at some point, the Sunbelt's

got to figure this out.

430

:

CB: Yeah, they might have

been graduate students.

431

:

I didn't sound like uh sophomores to me

432

:

Gary: No, they had some radio voice too,

which was nice to hear, but the Sunbelt's

433

:

got to kind of step up a little bit.

434

:

I think on the enforcement piece,

like, I know, you know, we're kind

435

:

of in the same boat where there's

2 sports going on at the same time.

436

:

We can only broadcast 1, uh, but we

have broadcasted every single home

437

:

Sunbelt baseball game that we've had.

438

:

Maybe some non conferences we don't put

on there, but every Sunbelt games on

439

:

there and I would love to see the rest

of the conference jump on board with

440

:

that because we've essentially missed 6.

441

:

ODU games, being able to see them when,

that's kind of one of the key perks of

442

:

being in the Sunbelt, is that ESPN deal.

443

:

So hopefully those schools

are able to figure that out.

444

:

CB: I thought that was the whole

selling point of the sunbelt was

445

:

you'd be able to watch all the games.

446

:

Uh, so when you can't, it's extremely

frustrating and not to say, you know,

447

:

something like yesterday, I didn't really

get to watch or listen to much because I

448

:

was out doing things, you know, it's, it's

fair that sometimes we got to go live our

449

:

lives, but I also, if I knew I could sit

there and watch, I might've made different

450

:

choices and be sitting at home watching.

451

:

So it's, it's frustrating not to

be able to, to, to watch your team.

452

:

Gary: Luckily the radio broadcast was good

and they were able to provide some color

453

:

to what was actually going on in the field

and kind of have a better understanding.

454

:

But you just miss so much of

baseball when you can't see it.

455

:

It's the little things that are happening

away from the play, the positioning.

456

:

What does a pitcher look like when he's

throwing like is he getting shelled

457

:

because his fastball is flat his sliders

is a cement mixer It's really hard to tell

458

:

that without seeing it unless you have

some good Good radio, people describing

459

:

it, but even then you can only do so

much on the radio without spending 500

460

:

words to describe one single pitch.

461

:

CB: And it's not like most

of the broadcasts, uh, the

462

:

streaming is that good anyway.

463

:

They got like three or four cameras.

464

:

These aren't big league broadcasts.

465

:

So it's, you know, we're not, I'm not even

asking for you to go out and, add in some

466

:

more cameras, absent production value and

do so, you know, just give me one over

467

:

the center field and one to show the feed.

468

:

Give me, just a couple of angles.

469

:

Uh, I'm really not, I'm

not sitting here like.

470

:

Yeah, I do.

471

:

I think everybody needs to step it up

a little bit, but it's like I get it.

472

:

All right, that's that's a lot.

473

:

So just just put some

on give me something.

474

:

Gary: I agree with you on that.

475

:

Give me something.

476

:

So I know if that single to

left was just a bloop or if it

477

:

was actually, a hard hit ball.

478

:

So, we'll put the weekend in the books.

479

:

We went one and two would have

loved to have won that series.

480

:

It would have helped us out considerably

because I want to talk a little

481

:

bit about the Sunbelt standings.

482

:

Where we're at what's attainable

and what we really need to

483

:

be looking to going forward.

484

:

So, uh, we're recording this

on Sunday instead of Monday.

485

:

All of the Sunbelt games have finished.

486

:

Uh, Louisiana was able to salvage

the final game against Troy, so

487

:

they remain in 1st at 18 and 6.

488

:

Troy is 16 and 8.

489

:

They're the number two team right

now, uh, Southern Miss and Georgia

490

:

Southern are both 15 and nine.

491

:

So they're tied for third.

492

:

So really, I think you're top four

there are, it's going to finish somehow

493

:

with those top four there on top.

494

:

And then you jump to five, you've got

App State at 13, 10, and one JMU at

495

:

13 and 11, and then ODU at 12 and 12.

496

:

So that's kind of the

top half of the league.

497

:

Still pretty close.

498

:

Anything can happen, but with ODU

being at 12 and 12 and Georgia

499

:

Southern and Southern Miss being at

15 and nine, I don't think we have

500

:

any real chance of getting into the

top four of this league, trying to

501

:

make up three games with six to go.

502

:

CB: That's If that's how that goes,

that's how that goes What they really

503

:

need to be focused on at this point

is staying out of seven through ten

504

:

Because as we know, seven through

ten in the tournament have to play a

505

:

single elimination game to get to play

in the double elimination part of it.

506

:

So, you really want to finish,

if they can't be in the top

507

:

four, you want to be five or six.

508

:

Right now, they're only a game behind

JMU, who they have a tiebreaker against.

509

:

And they're, uh, what, I guess it's

a game and a half behind App State

510

:

because of this weird tie they have.

511

:

Um, And that they're going

to play upstate this weekend.

512

:

So they very much could

leapfrog those teams.

513

:

ODU's future in the, in the

tournament is in their hands.

514

:

They got to go out and win games.

515

:

They got six conference games left.

516

:

I really think you'd probably need to

win five of them to be sure yourself.

517

:

You're not going to be

down in that seven spot.

518

:

Gary: Like you said, App

State's still on our schedule.

519

:

We've got the tiebreaker over JMU.

520

:

But it wasn't all bad news for us this

weekend, uh, because coastal Carolina

521

:

is in absolute free fall and they

are actually a game behind us now.

522

:

So if we can stay ahead of them,

we don't have to worry about not

523

:

having the tiebreaker against them.

524

:

They've lost eight straight games.

525

:

They got swept by Southern

Miss over the weekend.

526

:

They're 11 and 13 now in conference or

27 and 20 overall did not anticipate

527

:

coastal falling off a cliff.

528

:

And they are tied with South Alabama and

Georgia state at that 11 and 13 mark.

529

:

And then Texas state is kept

themselves alive at 10 and 14.

530

:

So the bottom three, pretty much out this

point, Marshall, Arkansas state, ULM.

531

:

Yeah.

532

:

Thanks.

533

:

Thanks for playing.

534

:

Uh, wish we would have gotten two

more wins off of a Marshall and

535

:

ULM, but kind of is what it is.

536

:

But coastal Carolina losing

eight straight South Alabama lost

537

:

the last two of their series.

538

:

Uh, Georgia state, uh, I think

they took one of two, uh, this

539

:

weekend against James Madison.

540

:

So not all bad news for us.

541

:

If we were going to have a weekend

to kind of stink it up and go one

542

:

and two, we got some help from

our other friends in the Sunbelt.

543

:

CB: Yeah, Coastal, uh, their record in

the Sun Belt being 11 13 tells you how

544

:

tough it is to win games in the Sun Belt.

545

:

Coastal, I mean, we saw them, they

are an extremely good baseball team.

546

:

They were a top 25 team for the

first half of the year, uh, and

547

:

they are in a free fall and like I

said, they're currently, what, 10th?

548

:

Uh eighth in the conference,

uh, so that's that's crazy.

549

:

That just tells you like you

said, it's it's a meat grinder.

550

:

It's hard to win.

551

:

Gary: And I misspoke earlier, Georgia

state was at Marshall and they

552

:

went one and two against Marshall.

553

:

So they dropped two games against a team.

554

:

That's pretty much out of

contention at this point.

555

:

Uh, JMU took two out of three

from Arkansas state at home.

556

:

I know one thing though.

557

:

If I'm the 7th seed, if ODU ends up with

that, and Coastal is somehow the 10th,

558

:

that's probably the most dangerous 10th

seed in any conference tournament ever.

559

:

So, uh, really important, I think, for ODU

to focus on, try to get to 5, get to 6.

560

:

We got 6 games left, 3 at home, 3 on

the road, and the 3 on the road are

561

:

against a team that's been struggling a

lot here in the back half of the season.

562

:

Five in one will get you the five seed.

563

:

CB: The goal doesn't change the goal is

still every single pitch every single

564

:

at bat win And if you win every single

at bat you win every single pitch

565

:

you'll win the games So the goal remains

the same for us sitting here on the

566

:

outside looking out about, you know,

prognosticating what needs to happen.

567

:

Yeah, they're really, they

need to win both series.

568

:

They, I think winning, if you

win five out of the six would be

569

:

really put you in a good position.

570

:

Like I said, at least get

those five or six spot.

571

:

Stay at that single elimination.

572

:

The single elimination is just too tough.

573

:

Baseball is not a sport to

be played in one game series.

574

:

Um, you see that with midweek games.

575

:

Anybody can win a midweek.

576

:

You see a team to be tough.

577

:

Top 10 in the country and they'll

go play some random school and

578

:

lose because you know, it's I mean

that happened with uva, right?

579

:

I mean technically we're the

odu to as far as most people

580

:

in the nation are concerned.

581

:

We're just some random school

Uh, and we beat uva So that's

582

:

why a single game is never good.

583

:

So anything you do to avoid

those those last four slots

584

:

Gary: Absolutely.

585

:

But I would even set the

first goal a little bit lower.

586

:

Uh, ODU is only two games up on not

being in the tournament with Texas state

587

:

is currently out if it ended today and

they're at 10 and 14, we're at 12 and 12.

588

:

And we no longer have a

tiebreaker over Texas State.

589

:

So, uh, winning at least three

or four of these games is

590

:

going to be really important.

591

:

Winning five is almost a luxury

to get out of that, that single

592

:

elimination, but it's still very tight

in that like seven through 11 range.

593

:

Like one, one of those teams I

just talked about is not going

594

:

to make the Sun Belt tournament.

595

:

You're going to get one hell of a fight

from all of them to make sure that

596

:

that does not happen, including ODU.

597

:

I think we got a good chance to go fight.

598

:

We've got a midweek this week,

but then app state rolls in.

599

:

And that is a critical,

critical series for us.

600

:

AD READ

601

:

CB: So our midweek, we got VCU again, we

are going up to the diamond to play VCU.

602

:

Uh, you may remember a few weeks

back we, uh, beat them seven to

603

:

one and it wasn't that close.

604

:

Uh, but we always know, VCU is

a very or competitive team, uh,

605

:

think that I saw they lost this

weekend to George Washington.

606

:

Um, who you remember ODU

swept to start the season.

607

:

We said when we played George Washington,

they were pretty good hidden team.

608

:

They've got Greg Ritchie as their coach.

609

:

They're, they're very well coached.

610

:

Uh, so it was interesting

to see that, um, VCU,

611

:

at the diamond lost two

out of three this weekend

612

:

Gary: Yeah, really?

613

:

Since they played us, they took a two

out of three from George Mason, who I

614

:

don't think is very good, but a lot of

good close games, uh, losses by one run.

615

:

Their final win was by a one run.

616

:

They lost at home to UVA.

617

:

Eight to four, then lost

two out of three to G Dub.

618

:

I think I said, after we played GW in

that series, that they did not look

619

:

like a team that was going to finish

in the bottom half of the eight, 10.

620

:

Uh, well, they are like smack dab

in the middle at nine and nine.

621

:

I think they're, they would

be the tied for the six seed.

622

:

Right now in the A 10.

623

:

So, maybe that GW game, uh, wasn't

as much of a cupcake as we thought

624

:

because they, they've, uh, played out

pretty well within the A 10 there.

625

:

CB: I mean, it'll always make me happy

if they go and win the tournament

626

:

and then this looks good for you

627

:

Gary: Well, we would need every bit of it.

628

:

I think, uh, it's a pretty foregone

conclusion that our large hopes

629

:

are, are gone out the window.

630

:

We left them somewhere

on a smoker in Texas.

631

:

CB: Yeah, I we I think they might have

been left before that But they definitely

632

:

uh, they they may have finally gotten

killed in texas But I think they were

633

:

critically wounded well before that

634

:

Gary: yeah, there's no, no doubt

now it's when the tournament or,

635

:

or bust, but, want to beat our

rivals with VCU, we should still

636

:

have some, some arms available.

637

:

I don't know what the pitching plan is.

638

:

I imagine it'll be like what we've

seen for a lot of our recent midweeks

639

:

with guys getting 1, maybe 2 innings.

640

:

I wouldn't be totally shocked if

Trent Buchanan or Dylan Brown got

641

:

an ending since they did not throw

this weekend, but it's going to

642

:

be a good time of the diamond.

643

:

I know there are a lot of fans coming out.

644

:

I'm going to be over there.

645

:

Uh, just realized on the VCU schedule

that it's dollar hot dog night.

646

:

So.

647

:

Uh, going to be getting after

that pretty, pretty good there.

648

:

They sell alcohol all

throughout the ballpark too.

649

:

So that's another perk.

650

:

Uh, but if you're coming to reach out

to me on social media, the, uh, first

651

:

base side is typically where ODU is at.

652

:

It's where the visitors

are for VCU games there.

653

:

So, uh, if you do come in head

over that first base side, I'm sure

654

:

you'll see a big crowd of ODU fans.

655

:

Uh, the idea is to do what we did

last year, where we actually have

656

:

more fans there than VCU does.

657

:

That is always a lot of fun, uh, to be

able to kind of take over the diamond.

658

:

And hopefully deliver

another loss to the Rams.

659

:

CB: Yeah, it's kind of unfortunate

that they don't really get you know,

660

:

they don't really have An atmosphere

for their baseball team, they play

661

:

in the diamond, which is cool.

662

:

You know, you play in a pro park Um,

I mean the place is kind of a dump but

663

:

it's still better than a lot of college

Experiences, especially the seating

664

:

wise for fans, but it's not on campus.

665

:

It's not really near campus You

just don't really have any kind

666

:

of, college fanfare about it.

667

:

So it is very easy to, you're

right to go up there and, and

668

:

take over the place, especially if

you're a, another Virginia team.

669

:

So it's, it's kind of a shame.

670

:

They always have a good program.

671

:

They always have good guys playing

for them and coaching with them.

672

:

And so it's, it's hopefully, I

know they're talking about maybe

673

:

building a new place, maybe when

they build, if they, if they build a

674

:

new place, they can.

675

:

You know get that to be a little

more Juiced up for their fans.

676

:

Gary: a lot of stuff going on

about the future of the diamond.

677

:

I think the public was led to believe that

there was a deal done for a private group

678

:

to come in and basically redo that whole

area and call it the diamond district,

679

:

which is going to include a new ballpark.

680

:

Um, I don't think there's been

a whole lot of movement on that.

681

:

I don't know where it currently stands.

682

:

But I believe at the start of the

:

683

:

to meet a certain set of standards

for your minor league ballparks.

684

:

I can't remember if it's 26, it

might be 27, but right now the

685

:

diamond does not meet many of those

standards, including locker rooms and

686

:

in different kinds of practice areas.

687

:

So I don't know what's

going to happen with that.

688

:

If they don't meet those qualifications

and the squirrels are relocated.

689

:

I don't know what that

does to the diamond.

690

:

I don't know what that

does to VCU baseball.

691

:

So they're kind of at the opposite end

of the spectrum from ODU where we know

692

:

we're getting a

693

:

new ballpark.

694

:

We know that it's going to start being

built as soon as this season is over.

695

:

And we're going to have it on

campus where VCU is kind of stuck

696

:

in this middle ground of, okay.

697

:

do we play in a potentially

new minor league

698

:

stadium?

699

:

We have to try to find some

space somewhere in the city

700

:

of Richmond to play baseball.

701

:

Are we going to have to call

in a favor with the spiders

702

:

down the road and Henrico,

they're in a really

703

:

difficult spot right now.

704

:

So I feel for the people that I

know support that program, like that

705

:

sucks as a fan and there's not really

anything you can do about it, but

706

:

hopefully that there's a positive

outcome for them and something

707

:

crazy doesn't happen there for VCU.

708

:

CB: Yeah, when they redid the

minor leagues a couple years

709

:

ago, I remember it was kind of

710

:

crazy, but they kept it the the squirrels

there in Richmond because I mean

711

:

they've been you know I used to go to

712

:

up there to Richmond Braves games all the

713

:

time and that's been 15 years

since they they left because the

714

:

place was a dump Um, and so when they were

redoing the minor league saying, you know,

715

:

there's a

716

:

standard we're only going

to keep teams and And on

717

:

top of that we're going to keep

them all geographically kind

718

:

of you know moving teams So

719

:

they're closer to

720

:

their

721

:

major league affiliate Well, so you

kept the team in richmond playing in a

722

:

dump that doesn't meet any qualifications

And there's still a giants affiliate

723

:

which is on the other side of the country

724

:

like none of it made any sense

725

:

Uh, so yeah, I mean I do i'm with you.

726

:

I feel for that.

727

:

I hope they I hope

728

:

they figure something out.

729

:

I hope they get themselves a

new stadium and in some way,

730

:

shape or form.

731

:

And again, hopefully it's something

that can help get a lot more

732

:

atmosphere going because I, I

733

:

maybe I need to go up to a

weekend game of the games.

734

:

I've been to at the diamond for VCU.

735

:

It is very easy to go in and

take over as a visiting team.

736

:

Gary: It, and it's wild because the

squirrels have some of the highest

737

:

attendance in all of AA, like Parney

and that crew that run the squirrels.

738

:

They do such an amazing job with

739

:

CB: They still have those

nuts that are so good.

740

:

Gary: Oh

741

:

CB: Oh my God.

742

:

Anybody who's at the diamond on

Tuesday, go to the nut stand.

743

:

It's like right there behind

744

:

home plate on the upper deck.

745

:

It's they're amazing.

746

:

They're so good.

747

:

Gary: Oh

748

:

yeah, I can, uh, I,

749

:

can try and track

750

:

those down for you, the Bavarian nut

guy that's there Um, yeah, we'll be

751

:

there Tuesday, hope, uh, anyone who's

in the 804 will, will swing by there

752

:

as well, the game's at 6 o'clock,

if you're not, I wanna say it's

753

:

actually on ESPN Plus.

754

:

CB: Says ESPN Plus.

755

:

right here on the schedule.

756

:

Gary: So if you can't make it up,

definitely check it out on, ESPN

757

:

plus and watch it, but we got to

758

:

talk about the big

759

:

one, the weekend

760

:

series

761

:

against.

762

:

Appalachian state.

763

:

And let me tell you, they are playing

some damn good baseball right now.

764

:

And their last nine conference

games, they are seven,

765

:

one, and one, six of those

games were on the road.

766

:

They're playing some good.

767

:

ball right now.

768

:

CB.

769

:

CB: Yeah.

770

:

it's, uh, I mean, this is a team

like a cupcake early in the year.

771

:

And,

772

:

uh, as we said, the

773

:

Sun

774

:

belts of meat

775

:

grinder and every team

will go in and compete.

776

:

And so, Yeah.

777

:

App State is, I was watching,

778

:

uh, some of one of their games today

and they were absolutely killing.

779

:

uh, South Alabama, which, you

780

:

know, we saw

781

:

South Alabama.

782

:

They're not the best team.

783

:

Uh, and that's why

784

:

they got beat, uh, 10 to two, uh,

785

:

and 13 to one and the

786

:

double header today.

787

:

Uh, but yeah, the app states go in the

788

:

right

789

:

direction.

790

:

So ODU is going to have

a fight in their hands.

791

:

Yeah.

792

:

Gary: And just going through some

of their stats to give you an idea.

793

:

They are a prolific hitting

team and they're pretty awful.

794

:

On the mound pitching, uh,

but these are all based on

795

:

stats from the end of the day,

Thursday on the 2nd, the conference has

796

:

for, like, the

797

:

conference leaderboard app state is

2nd and team batting average hitting

798

:

302 2nd and slugging at 519

2nd, and on base percentage

799

:

with 426 3rd and run score with

800

:

387, uh, they're, they were 3rd with

801

:

70 home runs, Uh according

to this, and I don't know if

802

:

this is

803

:

just going Counting like

conference home runs or what?

804

:

Uh, but they have a few more

805

:

than Uh 70 home runs.

806

:

They are at 83 home runs on the season

They are doing their best impersonation

807

:

of the bud bombers So far this year

808

:

CB: Banks Tolley, uh, has,

809

:

he's

810

:

hitting 385.

811

:

He's got 10 doubles,

812

:

21 homers and

813

:

62 RBIs.

814

:

So a 775

815

:

slugging, you got Austin St.

816

:

Laurent, which is a fantastic

name, all name team, uh, 372.

817

:

He's got eight doubles,

12 homers, 51 RBIs.

818

:

And then they got

819

:

another kid, CJ Boyd.

820

:

That's got 16 homers

821

:

and also drew Holderbach hitting 351.

822

:

So, I mean, they got some

guys that are really.

823

:

Uh, really.

824

:

hitting the ball and hit the ball hard.

825

:

Uh, but as you said, their

ERA as a team for the pitching

826

:

is 713.

827

:

So their pitching

828

:

has not

829

:

been great.

830

:

I mean, what it comes down to,

if you're playing a lot of your

831

:

games there in the mountains,

832

:

um, you got that high altitude,

833

:

the

834

:

ball

835

:

flies, and I, like I said, I was watching

836

:

some of the games that I

837

:

saw that happening, so I'm sure,

you know, they're getting some

838

:

home runs out, obviously not

just because of the ball flying,

839

:

I'm sure they're good hitters anyway, but.

840

:

They'll happen.

841

:

You're pitching staff too.

842

:

They've got, they've got some

guys that are giving up some runs.

843

:

You know,

844

:

their best, best era for the whole

team is Uh, Jackson Steensma.

845

:

It looks like he's one of the weekend

846

:

starters.

847

:

He's got a 417 innings

848

:

Um they also have another kid

with 52 innings as 872 era.

849

:

So, ODU's had a weak offense

at certain times this year.

850

:

this would be the weekend to

851

:

bring the bats out.

852

:

These are guys who you can hit against.

853

:

Gary: This could be an action

854

:

packed weekend series Uh, The bud bombers

could very much be back in full effect and

855

:

you could see some going out

the other way, too Uh, you

856

:

talked about the starters.

857

:

They've been pretty consistent

with their three weekend guys.

858

:

the

859

:

Jackson, steins Ma, Dante Ko,

and Bradley Wilson have really

860

:

been their three weekend guys.

861

:

All of 'em are over 50 innings pitched.

862

:

Uh, and I think they, they

constitute like 33 of the teams.

863

:

45 starts this season.

864

:

Uh, so clearly there they're

top three arms there.

865

:

not an E.

866

:

R.

867

:

A.

868

:

Under four in

869

:

sight.

870

:

And if you scroll down to some

of the guys have only pitched a

871

:

few innings, you're getting some

872

:

12 27 59.

873

:

4.

874

:

Uh, we've got to bring the bats this

875

:

weekend because we're gonna be

served up some pitches I think

876

:

we'll be able to put in play.

877

:

CB: Yeah, for comparison, ODU

878

:

only has one pitcher with

50 innings, and that's John

879

:

Halibetz, who, he's only started

880

:

four of

881

:

12 games, even though he's been

882

:

logging starter innings.

883

:

Um, and then we, we

884

:

actually have two guys over 40 innings.

885

:

Jacob Gomez has 41 in two thirds innings.

886

:

He's only started one, one

887

:

game.

888

:

Uh, we've got one, two,

three, four, five other

889

:

guys with 30 or more innings.

890

:

So, our

891

:

inning's a little more spread around,

um, as you, as you pointed out here.

892

:

All right.

893

:

But

894

:

it is going to be interesting.

895

:

One way that I

896

:

think,

897

:

especially

898

:

in college ball, where you win

899

:

is getting in the bullpen.

900

:

That's

901

:

probably especially true with this team.

902

:

Uh, not one of their

903

:

relievers has the ERA.

904

:

I mean, 524 is the lowest one

905

:

than 590 and the rest

of them all above six.

906

:

So you, you got a group of guys

who you can score some runs off of.

907

:

Gary: The key matchup this

weekend is definitely our

908

:

pitching versus their hitting.

909

:

Our pitching has only allowed

910

:

24 home runs this entire season,

which is pretty crazy considering

911

:

that we have played a boatload of

912

:

games at this point.

913

:

I think we're at 46 or 47

games So only giving up 24

914

:

home runs is huge.

915

:

Going up against the team that's hit 83

916

:

home runs this season.

917

:

Uh, and they've given up a boatload,

uh, from their pitching staff as well.

918

:

I believe that their pitchers

have given up 76 home runs.

919

:

So 76 versus 24 from the

pitching staffs there.

920

:

So.

921

:

There's going to be some pitches to

922

:

hit.

923

:

I think it's important that

we don't get too over our

924

:

skis, trying to

925

:

think about that stat

and hit a whole bunch

926

:

of home runs, just play our

927

:

game, get guys on, get pressure.

928

:

Uh, but if you get served up

929

:

something that's, that's pretty,

especially like two Oh one Oh,

930

:

Uh, crush it because you're going

to be able to hit it a long way.

931

:

If the wind is blowing out at the

bud this weekend, we could have a

932

:

bunch of home runs going out of.

933

:

that ballpark.

934

:

CB: Yeah, this could be a

very interesting weekend

935

:

And so this is, uh,

936

:

this is also gonna be the last weekend

of the current iteration of the

937

:

bud.

938

:

So it's gonna be, I'm sure we'll have a

939

:

graduation ceremony.

940

:

I would

941

:

imagine on Saturday, I'm

sure we'll have the senior

942

:

day along

943

:

with

944

:

Mother's Day on Sunday.

945

:

So I mean, there's a lot of, a lot of

excitement, a lot of, last moments, a

946

:

lot of emotion about this weekend anyway.

947

:

And on

948

:

top of that, you've got the potential for

949

:

a very interesting offensive weekend.

950

:

Gary: It's going to be a huge one

at the bud, uh, all weekend long.

951

:

I know, I'm going to get

down there Friday, be

952

:

there for all three games.

953

:

Our good friend, Liz.

954

:

Is on vacation, so she will not

be down at rally alley, but the

955

:

rest of that, crew hasn't covered.

956

:

I'll be dumping the remainder

of the koozies we have.

957

:

So make sure to swing by, uh,

and at least pick up a koozie

958

:

and put something cold in it

959

:

to go cheer on the Monarchs.

960

:

Because this is a huge series.

961

:

If

962

:

we can somehow find a

963

:

way to get our 1st sweep of the season,

we're going to be set up very, very

964

:

well for that 5th seed And

965

:

that 6th seed, uh, with the road

966

:

trip, uh, ending there at Georgia State.

967

:

But got the guys got to do it.

968

:

They got to go

969

:

out and play.

970

:

They hoping the pitching

returns to the form

971

:

and we're looking really

972

:

sharp there.

973

:

The bats get going.

974

:

Uh, let the crowd get into

a little bit, but, uh, these

975

:

guys have had a good season.

976

:

They solve a lot on the line.

977

:

And like you said, this is it

for this iteration of the bud.

978

:

We don't get to watch

games there next season.

979

:

CB: Yeah, next season

is going to be weird.

980

:

I assume we'll have an end of the

981

:

season podcast and we'll

probably spend some time talking

982

:

about, uh, how

983

:

weird next year is going to be.

984

:

Uh, but this is, this is winning time.

985

:

You know, you got two weeks

left in the regular season.

986

:

You got your conference tournament and

987

:

that's kind of all you're, you know.

988

:

Guaranteed with quotations around

because you're really not guaranteed the

989

:

tournament.

990

:

You got to win your way into it.

991

:

So, uh, You know going all

the way down to alabama and

992

:

playing

993

:

one game last year I'm sure it wasn't

very fun so hopefully they're gonna

994

:

do everything they can to avoid

995

:

that and get to play at least a

couple and And win a game or two and

996

:

play three or four or five six games

997

:

Gary: get down there early

998

:

enough that they can watch the seven,

eight, nine and 10 seed struggle in

999

:

their single elimination games, and

then go back to the hotel instead

:

00:43:16,229 --> 00:43:17,729

of being the ones going back to the

:

00:43:17,729 --> 00:43:18,799

hotel And getting on the bus.

:

00:43:19,914 --> 00:43:20,274

CB: Yep.

:

00:43:20,274 --> 00:43:22,574

So, uh, as always, I'm

:

00:43:22,574 --> 00:43:23,094

excited.

:

00:43:23,094 --> 00:43:24,484

I think this week's going to be fun.

:

00:43:24,494 --> 00:43:29,294

I think we're gonna pick up a nice win

of our rival VCU and hopefully come to

:

00:43:29,294 --> 00:43:31,624

the bud and take all three and win a

:

00:43:31,624 --> 00:43:34,764

series and be looking good going

to the last week of the season

:

00:43:34,764 --> 00:43:35,144

Gary: Definitely.

:

00:43:35,144 --> 00:43:35,834

Well, thank you

:

00:43:35,834 --> 00:43:36,954

so much for listening.

:

00:43:36,974 --> 00:43:38,914

Hope to see you either at the diamond

:

00:43:38,924 --> 00:43:42,844

on Tuesday or down at the bud

Friday through Sunday, but

:

00:43:42,844 --> 00:43:44,214

that'll do it for us today.

:

00:43:44,534 --> 00:43:45,414

I'm Gary go

:

00:43:45,414 --> 00:43:45,974

:

00:43:46,069 --> 00:43:47,659
