Hello, Monarch fans and welcome to the Hudson Homer's podcast.

:Part of the Monarchist Podcast Network.
3
:We are coming to you today after a
sweet weekend of George Washington.
4
:I'm Gary.
5
:I know I am feeling great after this
weekend of watching ODU baseball.
6
:I'm joined as always by CB.
7
:CB, how was your weekend out at the
8
:CB: Hey, you know, that
was a great weekend.
9
:I always say, it's always fun to go out.
10
:It's a lot more fun when you win.
11
:So taking three wins,
that was pretty great.
12
:Gary: Yeah.
13
:It was chilly, but it wasn't too terrible.
14
:I know you had, some layers
on to make sure you were fine
15
:down there on the field level.
16
:CB: Yeah.
17
:It was, it, fortunately the sun stayed
out, which is great, for us, for the
18
:weather, uh, for me taking pictures,
it was obviously, it was great.
19
:Um, and I, I'm, I'm extremely
good at, layering up these days,
20
:so I really wasn't that bad.
21
:Not gonna pretend like it wasn't cold.
22
:I mean, it was, it was in
the forties every single day.
23
:But I, it was, it was a lot, it was
the best you could have hoped for
24
:all around as far as the weekend
goes, as far as the weather, as far
25
:as the winds, it was really just
a really great opening weekend.
26
:Gary: And the crowd was fantastic.
27
:Really all three days.
28
:It was a big crowd on Saturday.
29
:There was a really nice crowd on Sunday,
for the final game of the series.
30
:And considering, it really
didn't get out of the forties
31
:to have that kind of support for
opening weekend was great to see.
32
:So tip of the cap to all the
Monarch fans, the families.
33
:Even some George Washington families
were down there to watch the
34
:game and were there all weekend.
35
:CB: Yeah.
36
:And they were great folks.
37
:I mean, a lot of times, the opposing
fans come in and sometimes you get
38
:some folks that are not great folks,
but the George Washington folks, I
39
:didn't really talk to a ton of them,
but they were all seeming very nice.
40
:And then just, they were just there to
watch baseball and root for their kids.
41
:And I think that's always great to
42
:see.
43
:Gary: our beat writer for ODU baseball,
Matt O'Brien, he interacted with quite a
44
:few of those fans and actually got some
thanks for talking about their kids.
45
:I know a Friday starter talked to
talk to his parents a little bit and
46
:a few others, pretty calm fan base.
47
:Not too much chirping going on a
little bit, but not too much that'll
48
:get really nice when we get into
49
:conference play and the
50
:weather's
51
:a little bit
52
:CB: I think when Charlotte
comes in a couple weeks,
53
:that'll, that'll ramp
54
:Actually, when he comes
55
:in a week from tomorrow,
56
:on
57
:Tuesday, that'll ramp up.
58
:They're, they're good for chirping.
59
:Gary: Yeah.
60
:And the beers will be
61
:flowing in Raleigh
62
:alley.
63
:I have no doubt.
64
:But great weekend.
65
:It was a busy day on
66
:Saturday.
67
:I was at the ballpark prior to
the game on Saturday talking with
68
:Rick French and Eric Bohannon and
a few others behind home plate.
69
:We were kind of in that little.
70
:Cave underneath the stands and it
was, uh, quite windy and quite cold
71
:down there, but glad to see such an
awesome turnout for Monarch fans.
72
:On the Hudson homers podcast, we are
going to keep you up to date on dollars
73
:for dingers, which if you haven't heard
of by now, that was, the campaign
74
:that started right at the end of
the:
75
:fans engaged in driving some money
back into the ODU baseball program.
76
:It's pretty simple for every home
run that ODU hit you donate 1, to
77
:the old dominion athletic foundation,
for their baseball campaign,
78
:it's become a much bigger deal.
79
:Now they kind of have that go fund
me looking page, but CB after this
80
:weekend, I think you have an idea of
what we need to shift to instead of
81
:doing dollars for dingers this year.
82
:CB: Well, I'm not going to say instead
of I want to, I want them to coincide.
83
:I think we still, I love
the dollars for dingers.
84
:We've got some, some pop on the team.
85
:I don't know that we're going to
hit that a hundred home run mark.
86
:I don't think that's a problem.
87
:I think we have a different kind of team.
88
:We got some good hitters.
89
:But I think in addition to our dollars
for dingers, which we have two of
90
:those, Luke waters and Jake Tizer,
both hit us a dinger this weekend.
91
:So we've got 2 committed already.
92
:I would like to add that
supplement, uh, compliment
93
:dollars for dinners.
94
:I want to go bucks
95
:for
96
:bags.
97
:I think we should
98
:be looking to donate a
99
:dollar for every stolen
100
:base the team has.
101
:And our guys
102
:came out
103
:hot this
104
:weekend.
105
:We started, we got 12 stolen
106
:bases this weekend.
107
:Gary: It was unbelievable
on the base paths.
108
:It was something
109
:that coach Finwood talked about
when he sat down with Matt O'Brien
110
:and it's in the preview article
111
:talking about this
112
:team's going to look a little different.
113
:I know
114
:you've talked about it.
115
:I've talked about it.
116
:It's contact, it's speed,
it's getting guys over.
117
:Getting guys in, not as much on the power
front, but we still did have two dingers.
118
:We had a couple of doubles that scored
some runs too, but 12 for 12 on stolen
119
:bases this weekend, which is unbelievable.
120
:I did the math.
121
:If we keep up that pace, we'll have
224 stolen bases at the end of the
122
:year.
123
:CB: I would be shocked if we kept
up that pace, but I think we can
124
:definitely steal a lot of bases.
125
:Kyle Edwards had three on the weekend.
126
:You saw, if you were at the game,
you saw he's doing a celebration.
127
:Looked like him, like, revving
128
:up
129
:the engine.
130
:I was talking to him
before the game yesterday.
131
:And it's, I
132
:just
133
:love how much energy he's bringing.
134
:he's
135
:he's playing like a
little kid and just having
136
:a
137
:blast.
138
:And
139
:It's
140
:really.
141
:Infectious for the whole team.
142
:It's fun to
143
:Gary: It's Stephen Meyer,
also three for three.
144
:Luke Waters, two for two.
145
:Carter Sunderman didn't even
play that much this weekend and
146
:went two for two, stealing bags.
147
:And LaVarie had
148
:another one.
149
:Just to put it in perspective,
last season, the entire season,
150
:including the conference
tournament, we only stole 77 bases.
151
:We already have 12 through
our first three games.
152
:That is an unbelievable change in
philosophy from a stolen base standpoint.
153
:CB: I, I don't have it in front of
me, but if you look back at, uh,
154
:22 or 21, that was
155
:probably
156
:a huge uptick.
157
:We had a
158
:lot more speed last year.
159
:Gary: Yeah, absolutely.
160
:That was, that was a high,
I think over the last
161
:five years.
162
:And then I think we're going to easily
163
:crush that number of 77,
very early in the season.
164
:If we keep up this pace of running,
165
:CB: It's great.
166
:It's exciting baseball.
167
:I mean, you saw that in major
league baseball this past year,
168
:where they made the bases larger
and it led to just a lot of steals.
169
:And it's, it's more,
it's more fun baseball.
170
:They had to compete with
the fact that they're.
171
:Catchers and pitchers are so good
that it was hard to steal bases.
172
:And so it's a fun style of
173
:baseball.
174
:It's, it's enjoyable to come out
to a game and, and see things.
175
:I mean, home runs are exciting.
176
:Don't get me wrong.
177
:I think
178
:home runs get anybody,
even your average fan
179
:that doesn't know much
180
:about the
181
:game excited, but stolen
bases are really enjoyable.
182
:Gary: they talk about in football,
defense travels, small ball,
183
:stealing speed and
184
:good pitching.
185
:They travel in baseball.
186
:So if you're not as reliant
on home runs to win games.
187
:You're going to be much more
consistent and likely win more games.
188
:I think you pointed out, you know,
end of last season, we kind of fell
189
:off a little bit with that home run
pace and it costs us some games.
190
:I feel a lot better about the
consistency of this team where home
191
:runs are just a nice added thing
192
:CB: yeah, I mean, hustle never slumps
and stolen bases and extra bases.
193
:That's hustle stuff.
194
:You know, you have some, some
intelligence and some smarts about
195
:when to do it and who to do it on.
196
:But if you're, if
197
:you're
198
:really hustling that it's
199
:hard to slump.
200
:Our
201
:first hit of the season was the
202
:infield hit.
203
:We can just put the ball in
204
:play
205
:and run hard.
206
:Good stuff happens.
207
:Gary: Yeah, and I feel like a
208
:lot of these guys, when they get on
the base pass, they just have that
209
:instinct of how to read the pitcher
and when to go and when not to go and
210
:being able to time that up to get some
really great jumps to where the catcher
211
:just has no chance to throw you out
going down to second or in some cases,
212
:third base, as we saw over the weekend.
213
:CB: Yeah.
214
:We took third a few times.
215
:Gary: You actually got
a really great shot of
216
:Stephen Meyer.
217
:That's in the recap that is posted
218
:up on odmonarchist.
219
:com of him
220
:sliding into third after a
steal, which was just an awesome
221
:shot.
222
:CB: Yeah, it's exciting.
223
:It's
224
:exciting when
225
:I can react fast enough
to get cool things.
226
:Gary: One other change I think
Monarch fans might have noticed too
227
:was the pitch clock boards are up so
you can actually see the countdown
228
:and
229
:how that impacts and.
230
:We'll talk to our pitchers throughout the
season here to kind of see how they game
231
:plan with the pitch clock and knowing
when the batter has to be in the box
232
:and when they have to start throwing and
how they use that to their advantage.
233
:But we did see that a couple times
over this weekend of being able to
234
:make that hitter stand in the box
in the cold for a few extra seconds.
235
:CB: Yeah, I mean, I love it.
236
:I'm looking here at the game times.
237
:Um, Fridays was 2 hours 11 minutes.
238
:Saturday, 2 hours 44.
239
:And Sunday, 2 hours and 50.
240
:So that was the longest one.
241
:There were a lot of minute and
pitching changes in that one.
242
:I mean, that's That's pretty great.
243
:I love baseball.
244
:I don't necessarily think it needs
to be a four hour game, which
245
:college had definitely gotten to.
246
:And so the pitch
247
:clock and then adding
some things like they
248
:have the electronic, devices on their
wrist to deliver signals, you know, just
249
:some things to make stuff move faster,
250
:Cause we can enjoy the game
without having to take forever.
251
:Gary: Yeah, I had gone
252
:over to women's basketball.
253
:They tipped off the
254
:same time as baseball did on
255
:Saturday and I had the live
256
:stats on my phone paying
attention to that when we were
257
:sitting courtside in the media seats.
258
:And we got to the fourth quarter there
and baseball was already in the six.
259
:And I was like, I don't know if
I'm going to make it back over
260
:to see the end of the game.
261
:We did.
262
:We got over there for the final
two frames, but we had to roll
263
:out basically as the final seconds
were ticking off the clock.
264
:So if you're, essentially running most
of a baseball game through the time
265
:it takes for a basketball game, you
have considerably sped that game up.
266
:I made it a little more challenging for
us running up and down the 43rd street.
267
:CB: Yeah, it's gonna be a little
challenging some of these, weekday
268
:games where I don't quite get out
of work when they start at three
269
:o'clock, so, that'll, that'll be
270
:interesting, but, again, I
271
:think it, it Just that's the kind of
thing that brings more people to the game
272
:too, if I can, if I can watch a game in a
273
:reasonable amount of time,
there's a lot of action, the
274
:base
275
:paths are
276
:moving, it's Just stuff is happening,
it's only gonna be a good thing.
277
:Gary: Just going to have
to increase your pace
278
:a little bit down in the
279
:beers and rally alley, if
that's where you hang out.
280
:Cause, the game's going to be
over by last call pretty quickly.
281
:So let, let's jump into the weekend and
start with, with the game on Friday,
282
:4 1 victory to start off the season.
283
:Wasn't the prettiest game I think we've
ever seen, but you saw right off the jump
284
:where putting the ball in play, using
speed, some timely hitting, excellent
285
:pitching, leads to a 4 1 victory on a day
where the bats really weren't even going.
286
:CB: Yeah, it was very much an
opening weekend kind of game.
287
:You know, everyone that first day, I
think, I don't know how many, I don't
288
:care how many years you've been doing it.
289
:If you're a freshman or if you're, you're
a 50 year senior, uh, I think guys are
290
:a little antsy, everyone's a little.
291
:Too amped up.
292
:Everybody wants to hit
that nine run home run.
293
:So the hitting wasn't great the other
team made some errors took advantage
294
:of them We did have some timely hits
and then and john holibets started off
295
:the pitching just looking outstanding
I think I saw he was up to like 96
296
:at one point Although he was smart.
297
:If you notice he hit that in the
first inning Then he was backing off.
298
:He was more around 91 92 93 the rest
of his time out there and then Bailey
299
:Metella just diced him up, 1, 2, 3.
300
:Lincoln Ransom getting his
first appearance on the mound
301
:as a monarch, looked great.
302
:And then Jacob Gomez, a couple
innings just to end the game.
303
:I mean, the
304
:pitching was fantastic.
305
:Zero, one run,
306
:not earned, you know, unearned run.
307
:Um, so that was just
a fantastic outing for
308
:the pitching.
309
:And the hitting got it
310
:done.
311
:They took
312
:advantage of the mistakes.
313
:Gary: I feel like Bailey
almost set the tone for
314
:guys coming out of
315
:the bullpen all weekend.
316
:He comes in, strikes
317
:out the side, faced
318
:three batters, three strikeouts.
319
:Doesn't get a whole lot better than that.
320
:He only threw 11 pitches to get three
strikeouts, which is really impressive.
321
:Lincoln hopping on the mound.
322
:He had a strikeout as well.
323
:And then of course, Jacob
Gomez slamming the door.
324
:I think the only, only thing
he missed out on was he, he
325
:hit one batter and that was it.
326
:But I will take that in
two innings of relief.
327
:Because that, that truly set the tone
for that pitching staff for the rest of
328
:the weekend, they were just lights out
329
:CB: Well, You
330
:know, Jacob
331
:can't be a guy that's out
there talking and intimidating
332
:people.
333
:He's
334
:not going to hit
335
:somebody, You know.
336
:He's got a.
337
:you gotta plunk
338
:somebody and let them
339
:Gary: You gotta get the word back out
that You can't stand close to that
340
:plate or otherwise
341
:Jacob's gonna come flying inside on you.
342
:CB: Don't get comfortable in the box.
343
:Gary: Don't
344
:box.
345
:you, you could also
see that velo bump that
346
:he talked about when he came on the
podcast in episode two, where he was able
347
:to gas it up a little bit when he needed
to, and then just blow your mind with
348
:something
349
:off speed.
350
:CB: Friday was a very
impressive day for pitching.
351
:That was the one thing you could walk
352
:away.
353
:Uh, again, the offense, you
354
:know, cold, it's
355
:hard
356
:to hit.
357
:The ball's not going anywhere.
358
:Everyone's a little too over anxious,
359
:but, uh, the pitching was just
360
:phenomenal.
361
:And their guys pitched very
362
:Gary: Yeah, yeah,
363
:I
364
:thought that they threw really well
on friday, especially considering that
365
:they're starting pitcher Michael folds.
366
:That was his first collegiate
367
:start ever.
368
:And it's only give up
369
:one run And
370
:four innings pitched, uh,
four strikeouts, two walks.
371
:You know, he had a couple wild pitches.
372
:He hit a couple guys.
373
:He had an air fielding, but I think
overall that's a pretty good sign
374
:for George Washington going forward.
375
:CB: they should be very excited.
376
:The kid after seven
377
:strikeouts and four innings, Braden Kurtz,
378
:yeah, they should feel really good about
379
:this Friday, guys.
380
:Gary: And we're not going to try to
make it seem like George Washington
381
:is a
382
:ranked ball club.
383
:That's
384
:going to be
385
:in the college world series
or anything like that.
386
:But I think the A 10 preseason
poll had them finishing ninth.
387
:The team I saw this weekend is going
to finish better than ninth and A 10.
388
:I think they're solidly going to
be in the middle of the pack there,
389
:be competitive down the stretch.
390
:So.
391
:Maybe a little bit better than
they have been historically.
392
:There were a lot of good things.
393
:If you're a GW fan after
watching your team this weekend,
394
:even though you went, Oh, and
395
:three
396
:CB: Yeah, it's tough to walk away
0 3 feeling good about things, but
397
:like I said, I think they should.
398
:They had some good pitching.
399
:They had some competitive hitters.
400
:I know their head coach, Greg Ritchie, is
an outstanding hitting coach, so they, I
401
:hope they have a great year and compete.
402
:They were fun to
403
:watch.
404
:They had some nice fans.
405
:I realize I've seen
the kid, uh, the second
406
:baseman, McGuire Tuffy,
seen him play summer
407
:ball the last
408
:couple of
409
:years with Morehead City, and he's a very
410
:good ball player.
411
:Gary: and a Monarch fans will definitely
be rooting for them so that they
412
:will sweep
413
:VCU
414
:this season because we just want
VCU to take as many losses as
415
:humanly possible just for fun.
416
:It doesn't
417
:even
418
:really matter, but it's fun.
419
:CB: Yes.
420
:Even though I was,
421
:One of their coaches who I'm friends with,
422
:I
423
:was
424
:telling him a
425
:good job on beating NC
State the other day.
426
:Gary: Yeah, I think that's a
hard part about baseball is
427
:you've got those coaches that you really
like that end up at a place like VCU
428
:and you're like, well, I want them to
lose, but I want my friend to do well.
429
:I've definitely been through
that with VCU over the years.
430
:CB: NC State's also kept
431
:us
432
:out of
433
:the tournament
434
:a couple of times, and they
shouldn't have, so I'm all for
435
:beating them
436
:Gary: Hey, I'll, I'll
take all the wins that we
437
:can get and anything that
helps pump us up for That That
438
:regional bid is good in my book.
439
:CB: Absolutely.
440
:But yeah, Friday was a good day.
441
:It was interesting to me.
442
:You know, I had pretty much
predicted the starting lineup.
443
:I think I had a couple
of positions switched.
444
:Um, it was interesting seeing, TJ
Aiken, Carter Sunderman getting the game
445
:late, and they got it all three games.
446
:So it was neat to see that's Finwood's,
447
:plan, I guess, is to bring them
448
:in, let them play some defense at the
449
:end.
450
:Sunderman has said he stole a
451
:couple
452
:of bags, I
453
:think, right in that
454
:game, and then he first pitch of his
455
:college
456
:career got
457
:a single.
458
:So, I mean,
459
:he's a good ball player.
460
:Gary: wasn't waiting around.
461
:He
462
:saw that first one and
drove it into the outfield.
463
:And when he did get brought
into the game as a pinch runner,
464
:immediately stole second.
465
:So you're definitely seeing that
speed impact there too, with guys
466
:coming off the bench and just being
ready to go and getting into position
467
:to help us put runs on the board.
468
:CB: Yeah, they were joking
around calling him Mr.
469
:Perfect, uh, which he was, yeah.
470
:Gary: Saturday, we talked about
that day a little bit, uh, much more
471
:competitive game.
472
:I mean, this thing was, was tight really
473
:until the fifth inning.
474
:We pulled away to get up, five to three in
the fifth, on a Stephen Meyer RBI single.
475
:And then it stretched out a little
bit in the sixth inning, just more
476
:of the same of, of a lot of contact.
477
:I mean, Tyser had the
home run, but that was.
478
:That was really the only big
pop in that game, aside from,
479
:uh, Kenny LaVarie's double.
480
:CB: Yeah, we had, what, four doubles
in that game, so that was where, I
481
:think the All the anxiety and all the,
um, pressure of opening day kind of
482
:lifted off its shoulders a little bit.
483
:I think you're getting a little deeper
into the George Washington pitching and
484
:seeing their depth isn't quite as strong.
485
:So you got to see a
little more pop that day.
486
:Dylan Brown, who started the game, did
a great job, you know, eight strikeouts,
487
:five innings, uh, three runs, two earned.
488
:Um, I love that they left him
out there in the fifth inning
489
:to let him work through it.
490
:I know he, he had, he gave him a run.
491
:He had some guys on base that's been.
492
:A time in some other some other years
493
:where we were going and getting that guy,
I was I'm very surprised they let him
494
:finish the fifth inning, but I love that.
495
:I think that's the kind of thing.
496
:The only way
497
:you're going to succeed is
by letting your pitchers
498
:work
499
:through
500
:stuff.
501
:So that was, that was very exciting
502
:to see that happen.
503
:Gary: He got to work
504
:through it while also keeping his
pitch count relatively low, threw
505
:73
506
:pitches over 5 innings,
pretty efficient work there.
507
:Uh, the 8 strikeouts, he was just blowing
508
:people away up there on the mound.
509
:CB: It's funny.
510
:He blows them away without
throwing really hard.
511
:He's just got really good stuff.
512
:He's really good
513
:at spotting the ball.
514
:Um, Dylan's a very talented pitcher.
515
:He's a, he's such a good kid.
516
:He's one.
517
:We need to bring him on
the podcast at some point.
518
:He's
519
:just
520
:a
521
:really,
522
:uh, really always smiling, having a good
523
:time.
524
:Great kid.
525
:Gary: Yeah, we'll definitely
work on lining up some more,
526
:Guys to come join us.
527
:They've got the quick turnaround
528
:to Charlottesville on Tuesday, but
we will definitely be bringing you,
529
:additional ODU players and coaches to
give you their, their take on things.
530
:But.
531
:Following Dylan Brown on Saturday
was Ben Moore, two innings pitch.
532
:There's one run that scored, but
it was unearned two strikeouts.
533
:Uh, it was a little wild though, ended
up hitting, three batters in that two
534
:innings of work.
535
:CB: Yeah, a little while, he kind
of made some of his own, problems,
536
:then an error behind him too.
537
:Uh, but again, you know, Ben's a
very good pitcher and, you come out
538
:of that one run unearned, it's okay.
539
:And then, and then, uh, Vincent Becerra
came in after a couple of hits in
540
:the inning, but a strikeout, inning.
541
:And then Jay Cassidy looked phenomenal,
542
:at the end, the Christopher
Newport, graduate student, uh,
543
:he, he looked outstanding at the
544
:end of the
545
:game.
546
:You look at
547
:a
548
:bullpen where you could
bring out, Cassidy and
549
:Gomez at the
550
:end
551
:of the things, the lefties, that's pretty
552
:dominant.
553
:Gary: It was impressive to see,
and Jay looked great on the mound.
554
:Didn't show an, an ounce
of, of nerves, really.
555
:He fielded his position pretty well
there at the end of the game too.
556
:Uh, so just another electric performance
from the bullpen after innings.
557
:Fantastic start from Dylan Brown.
558
:CB: Yeah.
559
:And again, just pitching
was really good all weekend.
560
:The offense picked up that game, you know,
what Kyle Edwards had a couple of hits.
561
:Kyle Edwards had a rough weekend, man.
562
:George Washington made about six
really outstanding catches in
563
:the outfield over the weekend.
564
:And I think at least three
of them were on Kyle.
565
:So, I mean, he, he
566
:was, he's still leading the team and
567
:hitting, but he, he should have had about
568
:three more hits.
569
:I mean, they just in the
gaps, just these great
570
:leaping, diving catches or
571
:outfielders made.
572
:And rob some
573
:hits off the guys,
574
:Gary: Yeah, George Washington's
outfield played great all weekend
575
:and they were battling some
576
:wind out there that,
577
:that
578
:changed
579
:directions on them on Sunday too.
580
:And they were still tracking balls down in
581
:the gap, going back to the
wall, having to deal with that.
582
:We probably could have added another
six, seven, eight runs over the
583
:weekend if they don't have that really
strong fielding in the outfield.
584
:Uh, so to have those things not go
your way and still come away with a
585
:sweep, that is really tough to do.
586
:Tip of the cap to the,
revolutionary outfielders there.
587
:CB: the revs.
588
:I do, I do enjoy the
589
:nickname.
590
:It's very fun.
591
:Also, let's play a solid uniform
game for the revs all weekend.
592
:They're Friday and Saturday, especially
at some really nice uniforms.
593
:And we owe to you, we got to show off
the full uniform game, but we had the,
594
:uh, there are pinstripe, our white
pinstripes on Friday, Saturday, we had
595
:the all Navy, you know Navy tops
596
:and Navy pants.
597
:And then Sunday we had the all
Hudson blues, both tops and pants.
598
:So we had some really, we got to
599
:show off our
600
:really nice uniforms on weekends that
601
:that's a lot of fun.
602
:Gary: you know, I'm partial to the all
Hudson blues, no matter what the sport
603
:is, football, baseball, basketball, that,
that's definitely my favorite combo and
604
:looks, looks amazing when, you put it
605
:out there print and photo and all of
that, it was nice to see us, looking
606
:sharp on the way to the sweep.
607
:CB: Yeah, I've been an advocate
of, ODU as a school kind of
608
:going back to the Hudson blue
609
:being our color.
610
:I think, you know,
611
:the
612
:Navy is great.
613
:We should use that as the
614
:highlights and support, but I,
I think, you know, we, at one
615
:point the Hudson blue was our
616
:color and
617
:I think
618
:we
619
:should
620
:kind of
621
:transition back into that
622
:personally.
623
:Gary: You can see, uh, my influence on it.
624
:If you go to odmonarchist.
625
:com, the whole site is pretty
much in Hudson blue with Navy and
626
:white writing.
627
:So I'm, I'm definitely on board
628
:with that
629
:Uh, but 1, 1 of the note from
Saturday, I do want to talk to you
630
:a little bit about Kenny LaVarie.
631
:He had a tough weekend overall.
632
:They had 3 strikeouts on Friday, but
Saturday bounce back, had a couple,
633
:couple of hits, drove in 3 runs.
634
:Look pretty good.
635
:He was also robbed a couple of times
on Sunday with, some good hits.
636
:So nice to see him come through, even
though he didn't have a strong weekend.
637
:He's able to drive in three runs for us in
what was a fairly tight seven, four game.
638
:CB: Yeah.
639
:And played first base on Friday
and Sunday too, which he's not
640
:done in a game at ODU before.
641
:So it's, it's, uh,
642
:it's great seeing
643
:him show that positional
644
:flexibility and, uh, and
continues to be a leader.
645
:He's just, he's just
a leader on the field.
646
:He's a leader in the
647
:lineup.
648
:Uh, Kenny's just a, he's
649
:a
650
:just
651
:such a value to ODU baseball.
652
:Gary: Yeah.
653
:He, He, brought a lot to
the table and was just glad
654
:to see
655
:him power
656
:through after a rough opening game to come
657
:back and play really well on Saturday.
658
:And I think that's, that might be the
659
:trend this year where you may see a
660
:guy that's.
661
:Only has one really strong game
over a weekend series, but the
662
:runs that they're driving in are
critical to winning that one.
663
:And I think you get that more when
you play more contact and speed
664
:than swinging for, for home runs.
665
:CB: Well, unfortunately for
Kenny, he's always been that guy.
666
:He's even in, you know, last
year with all the pop and power.
667
:I think whether you have seven, eight,
and they kind of ended up at the
668
:end
669
:of the year when he was
just kind of, he got a
670
:swing really going good.
671
:He's not, he's one of the guys
he's going to stay within himself.
672
:He's always going to
be a, hit the ball, the
673
:opposite field, take what's given to you.
674
:He's just a really, a
675
:really solid
676
:Gary: Yeah, and where he's hitting
at in the order with that, all
677
:that speed
678
:in
679
:front of him too, he, he's gonna
earn some dividends on that with
680
:those, those guys on the
681
:base pass,
682
:if he's able to go the other way,
get singles and doubles, there's,
683
:there's going to be ducks on the
pond for him in scoring position.
684
:So jumping on to Sunday,, when the
finale eight to two, another great
685
:pitching performance., Trent Buchanan,
we were sitting side by side there for
686
:part of that first inning, watching him
pitch and man, he looked amazing out
687
:there.
688
:CB: Yeah, you might be hard pressed to
find anybody in the team who's taken
689
:as big a jump as Trent has taken it.
690
:He was a very good, solid reliever
for, the Monarchs last year,
691
:and now he's looking, I mean, he,
let's say he was up to 96 there.
692
:Again, he did the kind of the same
thing that, Halibutz did where he
693
:kind of backed off a little bit,
decided to sit more around 92, 93,
694
:and, yeah, just pitched really well.
695
:I think we're all kind of
hoping to get the five innings.
696
:But by the end of four, it was very clear.
697
:He was physically a bit gassed.
698
:And also I think he was just
emotionally, I think it had started
699
:a
700
:game in years.
701
:And I think at a certain point
702
:it, it takes a little bit of
a toll, um, but just pitched
703
:great and, uh, it was very,
704
:very excited, set the table.
705
:For the
706
:team
707
:really well because we had
some really great relief work
708
:right after that
709
:Gary: yeah, Kellen Davis
710
:came on in relief
711
:for the fifth and
712
:CB: the gyro
713
:Gary: yeah, yeah.
714
:The phase three batter struck
715
:them all out and I will
just say batters look
716
:confused to put it nicely.
717
:CB: Yeah, he's got I don't even know.
718
:I don't know how you describe it.
719
:The ball just drops off the table.
720
:He's one of those guys you look at him.
721
:He's Probably the most might be the
most physically fit kid on the team.
722
:Um,
723
:he's one he could do like a Standing
724
:leap of about 40 some inches.
725
:He Just has this weird ball that
726
:just
727
:drops and is is
728
:goofy and when he
729
:controls
730
:it.
731
:Well, it's it's
732
:something else
733
:Gary: Yeah, I think that was a little
bit of shock and awe for George
734
:Washington at the plate when he came
735
:in to
736
:see that thing just
737
:drop off the table on them,
challenge for Evan Holman behind
738
:the dish to wrangle that in.
739
:But I thought he did a great job.
740
:That's players I want to talk
about here a little bit later in
741
:the podcast
742
:behind the edition.
743
:CB: Yeah, we need to
744
:talk about, Evan was
745
:doing
746
:work behind the plate.
747
:We need, we'll talk about him later
748
:in a little
749
:Gary: yeah.
750
:yeah.
751
:So, Kellen gets a clean fifth.
752
:Uh, Nick Sulpizio,,
753
:comes in, throws an
754
:inning in two thirds.
755
:It does allow one
756
:earn run, but for the most part,
really handled himself pretty well.
757
:CB: I actually had not had a chance to
see Nick Pitt, Nick or Brandon Pond.
758
:I hadn't had a chance to see them pitch.
759
:Uh, it just worked out.
760
:And so it was, it was good to
see, uh, Nick as a freshman.
761
:I know Finney is very high on him.
762
:You can see why the talent was obvious.
763
:There's always a little bit of jitters and
he pitched through it and he looked good.
764
:And then, um, Hudson Trobaugh
came out and kind of, he came
765
:into a bit of a situation there
766
:and, uh, got himself a fly out.
767
:So
768
:that was really great to see.
769
:I don't
770
:know if the plan is for him to be
771
:kind
772
:of a situational lefty
or if that's just how it
773
:worked out then, but it was, it
was, really good to see another
774
:freshman come
775
:in in a big
776
:situation and
777
:get out of the inning.
778
:Gary: Yeah, coming right in into a high
leverage situation and getting the out.
779
:I mean, can't ask for much more than
that coming in that situation and
780
:having that for your first appearance
781
:of
782
:the
783
:year, you know, no pressure kid.
784
:Good luck.
785
:And, he did well.
786
:CB: yeah, yeah, I know his whole, his
whole family was down from Maryland
787
:to see him and they, they were having
a blast, and then Brandon Pond, our
788
:graduate student from Lynchburg, who's
got himself a, division three, world
789
:series victory last year with Lynchburg.
790
:He came in last two innings,
just look great, look like
791
:another, uh, strong
792
:veteran presence out of the bullpen.
793
:you know, again, you, you throw
him and Jay Cassidy and Jacob
794
:Gomez, you got, you got a lot of
795
:experience.
796
:At the
797
:end of the
798
:bullpen there,
799
:Gary: Yeah.
800
:And we, we definitely saw
that on display all weekend.
801
:On the offensive side, it was, it was
a little bit of the Luke Waters show on
802
:Sunday, going four for four, driving in
four runs, hit the solo shot, but really
803
:just an amazing day at the dish for Mr.
804
:Waters.
805
:CB: I didn't even realize until I
saw the box where they had four hits.
806
:I knew he was having a great day,
but that's who he is as a ballplayer.
807
:He's just a quiet, consistent, I
mean, he's the same way he's as a kid.
808
:He just, he's real quiet.
809
:He's a good kid.
810
:He's having fun with everybody,
but he's just, he's not the
811
:like guy you're going to notice.
812
:And.
813
:So he can have a quiet four for four day
with four RBIs, that home run was, I think
814
:when we have home runs this year, what he
had is exactly what we're going to have.
815
:He just, he got into it, got a
816
:nice, nice line drive stroke
and it just smoked over the
817
:wall.
818
:I mean, I was one that, and
819
:it was a no doubter.
820
:I was, I was
821
:there in the
822
:bullpen and one of the guys in
the bullpen was like, Oh, stay
823
:fair because that was
the only thing that was
824
:the only way
825
:it
826
:wasn't going out as it went foul.
827
:Gary: He looked great at the
plate on Sunday and kind of
828
:helped spark a lot of things.
829
:I did notice something
interesting with Jake Tyser.
830
:Uh, they did not want to pitch to him on
831
:Sunday.
832
:Uh,
833
:he if they were runners
on base, he was getting
834
:Four.
835
:pitches way out of the zone,
see if they get into chase.
836
:But he, he did his job and got two walks.
837
:He got on base and,
and set some other guys
838
:up down the
839
:lineup.
840
:CB: Yeah, I, every time they, they,
they had two, you have two four pitch
841
:walks and I was sitting over there.
842
:I wouldn't pitch to him either.
843
:He's so imposing.
844
:He's imposing as a hitter.
845
:And then he gives you that mentally
imposing because you, you look at him.
846
:He's like, he's larger than
a human being should be
847
:like,
848
:he's just so big.
849
:I see him
850
:all the time and I still, like
I had a, I had some pictures of
851
:the day and he's walking there.
852
:It's like, he's head and shoulders above
853
:everyone.
854
:No, he's other large
855
:baseball
856
:players.
857
:It's Yeah.
858
:I
859
:don't blame them for not wanting
860
:anything to do with them.
861
:Gary: Yeah.
862
:I want to see him taking a
bat off of the kid from St.
863
:Mary's Jason Reitz, who is
864
:six
865
:foot
866
:nine as a pitcher.
867
:That,
868
:that's a matchup that I think,
college baseball fans need to
869
:see at some point this year.
870
:CB: I'm sure some team out here has
871
:some, uh, some huge pitcher that
872
:we can, we
873
:can get a matchup.
874
:We get a
875
:null
876
:height matchup.
877
:Gary: Yeah, for for long term
878
:O.
879
:D.
880
:U.
881
:Fans.
882
:Uh, Jason reached a place for ST Mary's.
883
:He looks like Sam Harris
884
:when he's pitching like
it's almost like he's
885
:moving in slow motion, but throwing
really hard at the same time.
886
:I think you threw five
scoreless yesterday.
887
:So we need the, uh, The tall guys club,
a little home run derby or something.
888
:CB: Yes, a few years back,
889
:I might be like 10 years now,
but I saw a guy, uh, Loke
890
:Van Mill was a, uh, a
seven foot one pitcher for
891
:the Minnesota Twins and the Miners.
892
:And I saw
893
:him pitch in the spring training game.
894
:And that was, that
895
:was pretty nuts.
896
:It's all
897
:arms and legs.
898
:Gary: Yeah.
899
:I mean, that thing is just dotting right
on top of your head as it comes in.
900
:It just looks like it's
being thrown off a tower.
901
:Spacing
902
:Maverick Stallings also had a great
903
:day
904
:on Sunday with a couple of hits.
905
:CB: Maverick had a great weekend.
906
:I mean, he had a couple of errors in the
field,, but he also he made three or four,
907
:five outstanding great plays in the field.
908
:So he just had a lot
of balls, hit at him.
909
:Um, but he, yeah, he had a great weekend.
910
:He was, well,
911
:he's
912
:four
913
:for 10.
914
:Um, just really, he's just a
915
:very consistent, good
916
:hitter.
917
:Hits
918
:line drives and he's a really good
919
:ball player.
920
:Gary: And Stephen Meyer had a
couple of hits in that game.
921
:A couple stolen bases over the
922
:weekend.
923
:He ended up with four hits,
uh, with a double, drove in two
924
:runs.
925
:It
926
:was three for three on steal attempts.
927
:He makes pitchers and catchers
nervous when he's on base.
928
:That's the best way I can describe
929
:it.
930
:CB: Yeah, Steve's I'm I'm going
to take some credit with Steve
931
:because he was telling me, uh,
last weekend that he was scuffling.
932
:He was a little worried about, he was
coming into the season, not doing well.
933
:And I told him, I said, well, hey
man, with your speed, you just
934
:got to like, you know, do a bunt.
935
:And, uh, and he's like, and
we were talking because we
936
:were at, at the, the practice.
937
:He's like, yeah, but every time I do
that, Kenny's just going to field it.
938
:I said, yeah, well, you do a
push bunt towards first base.
939
:I think it was his first at
that of the year, he did a
940
:push bunt towards first base.
941
:Now he ended up, he wasn't safe on
942
:that one.
943
:He moved a runner over.
944
:Uh, but from there on, all of a
945
:sudden, the swing was on, he had a
946
:couple of, uh, blue pits.
947
:on, a
948
:Saturday to get him going.
949
:And, uh, so I'm gonna, I'm gonna
950
:take a little credit
with Steve and we helped
951
:get him going
952
:Gary: Yeah.
953
:And he did that same push button.
954
:I think it was supposed to be a suicide
955
:squeeze.
956
:But the run ended up scoring and
he was safe at first on Sunday.
957
:Uh, and it's just again, that
speed causes people to rush.
958
:They don't set their feet.
959
:They don't make the right
throw, the right reads.
960
:Just that added pressure that
he brings to the table when
961
:he's on the base pass is such a
962
:weapon for
963
:us.
964
:CB: well, and now, since you said
weapon, that's the phrase I've been
965
:using about Evan Holman, behind
the plate, Evan Holman is a weapon.
966
:He is just gunning guys down.
967
:I mean, it's not even close.
968
:Like he's, he's throwing
the ball and they're
969
:having to wait on him.
970
:Uh, on
971
:the guy sliding in.
972
:I mean, he, he is.
973
:he had a
974
:heck of a weekend, made a bunch of
975
:diving and stops a
976
:lot of, in the dirt
977
:stops and the
978
:Evan just looked phenomenal behind the
979
:plate.
980
:Gary: He was incredible.
981
:I don't know
982
:what his actual pop time is.
983
:Like, I need someone with
a stopwatch to time it.
984
:But it's one of the
985
:fastest ones that I've ever
seen in college baseball.
986
:He has that ball up and out.
987
:So fast that runners
really don't have a chance.
988
:And some of the guys he was throwing
out were out by eight, nine feet.
989
:Like it was just looks so simple.
990
:CB: And Jack Slater, caught on Saturday,
did a great job too, but, he didn't
991
:get to show off as much as Evan did.
992
:I mean, Evan, really,
he looked outstanding.
993
:And this is
994
:a guy, a lot of people I
995
:don't know last year when he was Juko, he
ended up playing third base a lot of the
996
:season, just because of some injuries.
997
:Um, so this guy, he didn't really get a
998
:chance to,
999
:to catch as much as he would have liked
:
00:30:17,443 --> 00:30:18,033
last year.
:
00:30:18,499 --> 00:30:18,749
Gary: Yeah.
:
00:30:18,759 --> 00:30:19,509
I mean, he threw out
:
00:30:19,509 --> 00:30:21,959
three of five base dealers this weekend.
:
00:30:21,959 --> 00:30:23,749
And in one of those, he didn't throw out
:
00:30:23,759 --> 00:30:24,619
on Sunday.
:
00:30:24,919 --> 00:30:25,129
He
:
00:30:25,129 --> 00:30:27,339
was so fast with his pop time that when He
:
00:30:27,339 --> 00:30:30,489
came up with the ball in his hand,
he actually hit the underside of the
:
00:30:30,489 --> 00:30:32,119
lid of his helmet that was backwards.
:
00:30:32,409 --> 00:30:36,239
And that's the only reason he didn't throw
that guy out because he had him by a mile.
:
00:30:36,484 --> 00:30:39,844
He just accidentally hit his own helmet
and it would have been a throw into
:
00:30:39,844 --> 00:30:41,174
center field if he would have kept
:
00:30:41,174 --> 00:30:41,464
going.
:
00:30:41,464 --> 00:30:43,664
CB: The weapon is so dangerous,
it might hurt himself.
:
00:30:43,714 --> 00:30:48,454
It's great to see and I would argue
probably George Washington based runners
:
00:30:48,454 --> 00:30:51,844
aren't as, uh, fast or effective as
some other teams we're going to see.
:
00:30:52,184 --> 00:30:56,074
I don't guess that's anything, uh,
you know, mean to say about them.
:
00:30:56,084 --> 00:30:58,704
So I, I'm very excited
to see how Evan does
:
00:30:58,704 --> 00:31:00,704
against some teams like UVA ECU
:
00:31:00,704 --> 00:31:03,644
coming up, some of these, bigger
schools, some of the, have some,
:
00:31:03,964 --> 00:31:06,274
you know, some top 25, uh, players.
:
00:31:06,814 --> 00:31:08,614
So I'm, I'm very excited to see how Evan
:
00:31:08,614 --> 00:31:09,524
does the rest of the year.
:
00:31:09,594 --> 00:31:09,804
Gary: And
:
00:31:10,034 --> 00:31:12,924
I do want to point out that I think
our pitching staff helped them out
:
00:31:12,924 --> 00:31:14,304
by being pretty quick to the plate
:
00:31:14,344 --> 00:31:16,074
too, to put them in a good position.
:
00:31:16,374 --> 00:31:17,114
We didn't have those
:
00:31:17,144 --> 00:31:18,954
situations where somebody clearly
:
00:31:18,954 --> 00:31:19,094
got
:
00:31:19,094 --> 00:31:19,164
a
:
00:31:19,174 --> 00:31:20,334
steal off of a pitcher.
:
00:31:20,334 --> 00:31:20,624
So.
:
00:31:21,054 --> 00:31:26,994
That tandem working together to keep
guys from stealing is, is nice to see.
:
00:31:27,004 --> 00:31:29,634
And it's something that once you start
getting that reputation, it's going to
:
00:31:29,634 --> 00:31:34,204
make a lot of teams, even just not steal
on you period, because they don't want
:
00:31:34,204 --> 00:31:35,424
to take the chance of getting it out
:
00:31:35,424 --> 00:31:35,674
there,
:
00:31:35,674 --> 00:31:36,804
CB: Yeah, I think that's a great point.
:
00:31:36,804 --> 00:31:39,174
Once you get to conference
play, other teams kind of know
:
00:31:39,174 --> 00:31:40,284
about you and what you're doing.
:
00:31:40,284 --> 00:31:41,094
So, uh,
:
00:31:41,614 --> 00:31:44,004
hopefully by the end of the year,
people are trying and trying it and
:
00:31:44,004 --> 00:31:45,704
that that's as good as anything.
:
00:31:45,714 --> 00:31:46,934
If you can keep guys,
:
00:31:46,934 --> 00:31:49,164
keep people being station to
:
00:31:49,164 --> 00:31:49,684
station
:
00:31:49,684 --> 00:31:51,554
baseball, it makes a lot harder to
:
00:31:51,554 --> 00:31:52,084
score.
:
00:31:52,665 --> 00:31:54,795
Gary: especially with the arms
we're trotting out of the pen
:
00:31:54,795 --> 00:31:54,845
and
:
00:31:54,855 --> 00:31:56,325
in our rotation right now.
:
00:31:56,670 --> 00:31:56,760
I
:
00:31:56,760 --> 00:31:59,240
mean, it's, uh, it's, really nice to see.
:
00:31:59,380 --> 00:32:01,200
And we did see Blake Morgan
:
00:32:01,270 --> 00:32:03,290
on the field pregame on Saturday.
:
00:32:03,680 --> 00:32:06,670
I know that there's some debate
if he's coming back this season,
:
00:32:06,670 --> 00:32:07,880
we could have him in a month.
:
00:32:07,880 --> 00:32:08,710
I know there's a lot of.
:
00:32:09,125 --> 00:32:11,705
A lot of things going on out there,
but he was, pulling up some mats and
:
00:32:11,705 --> 00:32:13,525
stuff from BP moving pretty well.
:
00:32:13,785 --> 00:32:16,965
CB: He was, uh, he was out there
throwing a bullpen Saturday, um, and
:
00:32:16,965 --> 00:32:19,665
it was throwing some before the game
Sunday, and I was talking to him, he
:
00:32:19,665 --> 00:32:21,855
said it's all, it's all going good,
:
00:32:21,925 --> 00:32:23,685
we're just gonna, it's still just a
:
00:32:23,685 --> 00:32:26,785
keep waiting and seeing, still a
few weeks out, but he said so far,
:
00:32:27,125 --> 00:32:28,985
there aren't many setbacks,
so far he's feeling
:
00:32:28,985 --> 00:32:30,925
good, so that would, that would be a
:
00:32:30,925 --> 00:32:31,185
huge
:
00:32:31,195 --> 00:32:31,525
addition
:
00:32:31,675 --> 00:32:33,565
if Blake could come
out and feel strong and
:
00:32:33,565 --> 00:32:34,085
feel good.
:
00:32:34,241 --> 00:32:36,881
Gary: mean, you think about the
second weekend of conference second,
:
00:32:36,891 --> 00:32:39,331
a month of conference play, being
:
00:32:39,331 --> 00:32:41,961
able to add Blake Morgan to this
:
00:32:42,081 --> 00:32:43,441
pitching staff, uh,
:
00:32:43,441 --> 00:32:45,581
that that's gotta be pretty
terrifying for everyone.
:
00:32:45,581 --> 00:32:47,581
Who's on the back half of our schedule.
:
00:32:47,581 --> 00:32:49,781
If they see him start making
that come back to the field.
:
00:32:49,781 --> 00:32:50,511
CB: Yeah, it'd be great.
:
00:32:50,611 --> 00:32:53,431
I, I, my guess would be that probably
work him in on some midweeks.
:
00:32:53,781 --> 00:32:56,591
I was looking ahead that midweek we
have against Princeton where we have
:
00:32:56,591 --> 00:32:59,811
a Tuesday and Wednesday, that would
be a really perfect scenario to try to
:
00:32:59,811 --> 00:33:01,191
bring Blake in, if
:
00:33:01,191 --> 00:33:02,531
he's able, so we'll, we'll see.
:
00:33:02,541 --> 00:33:04,131
Like I said, he's, he's
feeling good about it.
:
00:33:04,181 --> 00:33:04,431
like I
:
00:33:04,431 --> 00:33:05,861
talked to him, he's like,
Yeah, a little sore, but he's
:
00:33:05,861 --> 00:33:06,691
like, you know, that's normal.
:
00:33:06,791 --> 00:33:07,031
He's like,
:
00:33:07,081 --> 00:33:07,311
so it
:
00:33:07,321 --> 00:33:09,311
wasn't anything that
out of the ordinary for
:
00:33:09,311 --> 00:33:09,431
him.
:
00:33:10,171 --> 00:33:11,911
Gary: Yeah, well, obviously both of
:
00:33:11,911 --> 00:33:12,211
us are
:
00:33:12,211 --> 00:33:12,781
rooting for Blake
:
00:33:12,781 --> 00:33:13,051
Morgan.
:
00:33:13,051 --> 00:33:13,871
I think all Monarch
:
00:33:13,871 --> 00:33:18,371
fans are getting that lefty back
out there to do some damage.
:
00:33:18,401 --> 00:33:21,941
We're going to take a quick break
before we discuss the four games coming
:
00:33:21,941 --> 00:33:23,651
up on the Monarch schedule this week.
:
00:33:28,933 --> 00:33:32,503
This episode was recorded prior to
Tuesday's game with Virginia being
:
00:33:32,503 --> 00:33:34,933
postponed Wednesday at 2:30 PM.
:
00:33:35,503 --> 00:33:38,113
Our thoughts are with the
family of Aaron Buchanan and
:
00:33:38,113 --> 00:33:39,523
the Virginia baseball program.
:
00:33:39,523 --> 00:33:41,123
Spacing out a few
:
00:33:41,123 --> 00:33:41,863
Gary: We got a little look
:
00:33:41,863 --> 00:33:42,873
ahead to do here.
:
00:33:42,873 --> 00:33:48,213
Uh, after the sweep, we've got number
14 UVA on Tuesday and then a weekend
:
00:33:48,243 --> 00:33:50,773
series with Rutgers coming to town.
:
00:33:50,823 --> 00:33:52,503
This episode is going
to release on Tuesday.
:
00:33:52,563 --> 00:33:55,393
So, great thing to listen to if
you're driving up to Charlottesville
:
00:33:55,393 --> 00:33:56,973
or driving back after the game.
:
00:33:57,393 --> 00:33:58,343
Uh, but UVA.
:
00:33:58,768 --> 00:34:04,468
They swept Hofstra over the weekend,
they won 10 to 8 on Friday, 21 to 3 on
:
00:34:04,518 --> 00:34:06,838
Saturday, and then 11 to 9 on Sunday.
:
00:34:06,948 --> 00:34:08,797
CB: It's a lot of runs
to give up the Hofstra.
:
00:34:08,878 --> 00:34:09,648
I gotta be honest.
:
00:34:09,648 --> 00:34:11,628
I mean, I'm not gonna, I'm
not gonna knock Hofstra
:
00:34:11,628 --> 00:34:15,578
as every team's a team, but that's, uh,
when I first hear UBA versus Hofstra, I
:
00:34:15,578 --> 00:34:16,398
think the 21 to
:
00:34:16,398 --> 00:34:16,878
three should have
:
00:34:16,878 --> 00:34:17,728
been the whole weekend.
:
00:34:17,768 --> 00:34:18,308
So it's, it's
:
00:34:18,308 --> 00:34:18,838
interesting.
:
00:34:19,547 --> 00:34:20,958
Gary: that, that's kind
of what I was thinking
:
00:34:21,007 --> 00:34:24,538
too, and especially it was, it was colder
in Charlottesville than it was in Norfolk.
:
00:34:24,538 --> 00:34:28,047
And that's a boatload of runs that are
coming through there and a lot of arms
:
00:34:28,047 --> 00:34:29,558
that you're using out of your bullpen.
:
00:34:29,908 --> 00:34:30,572
Uh, so it's,
:
00:34:30,572 --> 00:34:33,447
going to be interesting to see the
pitching matchups that develop from
:
00:34:33,447 --> 00:34:34,998
that after probably blowing through.
:
00:34:35,493 --> 00:34:38,553
All of your arms on the weekend
while, we were able to use our
:
00:34:38,553 --> 00:34:41,953
guys pretty sparingly with some
good starting pitching performances.
:
00:34:41,953 --> 00:34:43,683
CB: Yeah, I mean, but,
but again, let's operate.
:
00:34:43,683 --> 00:34:45,483
I mean, UBA is a fantastic team.
:
00:34:45,503 --> 00:34:50,493
Um, they have a few local kids, Harrison
Dinnewick from, uh, Western branches.
:
00:34:50,493 --> 00:34:53,473
I think he's a sophomore now
and he's an outstanding player.
:
00:34:53,763 --> 00:34:56,753
Ethan Anderson, catch from
Cox play with Kyle Edwards.
:
00:34:56,753 --> 00:34:58,153
They want to stay championship together.
:
00:34:58,533 --> 00:35:02,183
Uh, as seniors and Ethan is, is
he's getting the catch this year.
:
00:35:02,553 --> 00:35:04,143
Um, and he's a phenomenal player.
:
00:35:04,143 --> 00:35:06,203
So, I mean, UVA is UVA is no joke.
:
00:35:06,203 --> 00:35:08,253
I mean, every, we got three
games against them this year.
:
00:35:08,633 --> 00:35:10,153
Every one of them is
going to be a rock fight.
:
00:35:10,153 --> 00:35:10,863
I mean, they're good.
:
00:35:10,863 --> 00:35:10,973
We
:
00:35:10,973 --> 00:35:12,213
can, we can match up with them though.
:
00:35:12,223 --> 00:35:12,753
I mean, that's the thing.
:
00:35:12,753 --> 00:35:16,973
We, we beat UVA plenty in the past,
they're not this unbeatable team.
:
00:35:17,133 --> 00:35:17,703
So it's
:
00:35:18,433 --> 00:35:19,033
hopefully Tuesday.
:
00:35:19,033 --> 00:35:19,803
It's going to be a great game.
:
00:35:19,853 --> 00:35:22,143
Gary: Well, it really, since brian
O'Connor got there, they've,
:
00:35:22,163 --> 00:35:23,833
they've become a power for sure.
:
00:35:23,833 --> 00:35:27,223
But even when they've had those great
seasons and they've won national
:
00:35:27,223 --> 00:35:28,143
championships and been in the,
:
00:35:28,143 --> 00:35:31,543
college world series, we've
fared pretty well against them.
:
00:35:31,803 --> 00:35:35,003
I remember from working
ODU coming to town and.
:
00:35:35,003 --> 00:35:38,013
Getting some wins on those midweeks
after hearing from all the UVA fans
:
00:35:38,023 --> 00:35:39,523
about how we're going to blow ODU out.
:
00:35:39,523 --> 00:35:42,953
And then all of a sudden, it's four to
one in the ninth inning and they're done.
:
00:35:43,313 --> 00:35:48,023
Uh, so hopefully continuing that trend
and going four and O, uh, to head
:
00:35:48,023 --> 00:35:49,943
into the weekend series with Rutgers.
:
00:35:50,193 --> 00:35:52,023
If you're going up to
Charlottesville, enjoy it.
:
00:35:52,033 --> 00:35:55,793
The ballpark, since they've done the
renovations is absolutely beautiful
:
00:35:56,013 --> 00:35:59,603
and should, inspire you to do,
Anything you can financially to help
:
00:35:59,603 --> 00:36:03,583
us rebuild the bud because it's not
going to be too far off from just that
:
00:36:03,583 --> 00:36:05,213
amazing facility that they have there.
:
00:36:05,213 --> 00:36:06,303
Uh, Davenport field.
:
00:36:06,303 --> 00:36:07,113
CB: Yeah, it was great to see.
:
00:36:07,113 --> 00:36:07,163
I
:
00:36:07,163 --> 00:36:07,333
know
:
00:36:07,333 --> 00:36:09,403
Ryan Zimmerman, uh, from
right here in Virginia
:
00:36:09,403 --> 00:36:11,873
Beach, he, he donated a lot of money.
:
00:36:11,983 --> 00:36:13,063
Uh, so it's nice to have
:
00:36:13,063 --> 00:36:14,413
those, uh, those major league
:
00:36:14,413 --> 00:36:15,103
alumni
:
00:36:15,203 --> 00:36:16,453
who really,
:
00:36:16,503 --> 00:36:17,213
invest in and
:
00:36:17,213 --> 00:36:18,293
care about the program.
:
00:36:18,543 --> 00:36:19,213
That's a great thing that
:
00:36:19,213 --> 00:36:19,613
UVA
:
00:36:19,634 --> 00:36:20,034
Gary: Yeah.
:
00:36:20,074 --> 00:36:21,034
Yeah, absolutely.
:
00:36:21,034 --> 00:36:22,204
They've got, got a good fan base
:
00:36:22,254 --> 00:36:23,974
there too, even though it's a Tuesday
:
00:36:23,974 --> 00:36:25,974
midweek, probably be a,
little bit chilly there.
:
00:36:25,974 --> 00:36:28,794
They're still going to show up and
there'll be plenty of people out in
:
00:36:28,794 --> 00:36:31,794
that right field porch where they
have kind of an elevated version of
:
00:36:31,794 --> 00:36:34,734
rally alley out there where you can
see right down the right field line.
:
00:36:35,174 --> 00:36:37,284
Um, I wish I wish I was
able to get out there.
:
00:36:37,284 --> 00:36:38,884
I'm unfortunately not
able to Tuesday, but.
:
00:36:39,499 --> 00:36:41,579
Uh, we'll absolutely be following along.
:
00:36:41,669 --> 00:36:45,099
ESPN plus we'll have the streaming
broadcast if you're not heading out
:
00:36:45,099 --> 00:36:46,219
to Charlottesville this weekend.
:
00:36:46,219 --> 00:36:47,629
CB: Yeah, I'll be doing the
same thing, watching and running
:
00:36:47,629 --> 00:36:49,009
ESPN Plus with everybody else.
:
00:36:49,519 --> 00:36:52,609
And then, Rutgers this weekend,
they, I know they swept their
:
00:36:52,609 --> 00:36:53,199
weekend,
:
00:36:53,209 --> 00:36:53,239
What
:
00:36:53,239 --> 00:36:53,529
were they?
:
00:36:53,539 --> 00:36:54,409
Wofford?
:
00:36:54,409 --> 00:36:54,599
Is that who
:
00:36:54,690 --> 00:36:57,530
Gary: Uh, Winthrop from
down in Rock Hill, South
:
00:36:57,530 --> 00:36:58,160
Carolina,
:
00:36:58,160 --> 00:36:59,610
CB: It was somewhere down in Carolina.
:
00:36:59,610 --> 00:37:00,670
Yeah, so good for them.
:
00:37:00,770 --> 00:37:02,410
I saw Joey DiChiaro, former
:
00:37:03,140 --> 00:37:03,910
ODU Monarch.
:
00:37:03,910 --> 00:37:04,170
He had
:
00:37:04,170 --> 00:37:06,620
a scoreless inning at the
end of the game Saturday.
:
00:37:06,980 --> 00:37:08,880
I think he got a save, which is great.
:
00:37:08,880 --> 00:37:09,540
Looking forward to seeing
:
00:37:09,540 --> 00:37:09,890
him.
:
00:37:10,460 --> 00:37:11,640
Hopefully his team will go
:
00:37:11,890 --> 00:37:12,740
0 3 this weekend.
:
00:37:15,220 --> 00:37:15,980
Gary: I hope so.
:
00:37:15,980 --> 00:37:17,960
And I'm Bobby D tweeted at
:
00:37:17,960 --> 00:37:18,060
us
:
00:37:18,060 --> 00:37:20,910
and said that we have to pay him
50, 000 or buy him some bourbon
:
00:37:20,910 --> 00:37:21,100
every
:
00:37:21,100 --> 00:37:21,270
time
:
00:37:21,270 --> 00:37:22,040
we mentioned his name.
:
00:37:22,040 --> 00:37:25,990
So add 1 more drink to the
list there for Bobby, but the
:
00:37:26,050 --> 00:37:27,680
series down in, in Rock Hill.
:
00:37:27,980 --> 00:37:32,440
They took first game pretty convincingly
14 to 5 Saturday was a little bit closer.
:
00:37:32,450 --> 00:37:34,320
Three, one good, good pitchers game.
:
00:37:34,640 --> 00:37:38,840
And then, Sunday was actually 11
inning game, that they won seven to six.
:
00:37:38,850 --> 00:37:41,320
So pretty good competitive
baseball for them, at least the
:
00:37:41,320 --> 00:37:42,550
last few games in that series.
:
00:37:42,550 --> 00:37:44,840
CB: Yeah, you know, Rutgers is always,
it's always good to come in when
:
00:37:44,970 --> 00:37:46,920
we have what was like 24 years in a
:
00:37:46,920 --> 00:37:47,170
row.
:
00:37:47,170 --> 00:37:48,200
We had them coming in
:
00:37:48,200 --> 00:37:50,010
and then I think the
last few they haven't.
:
00:37:50,100 --> 00:37:52,340
Uh, and so getting them back is it's nice.
:
00:37:52,340 --> 00:37:52,740
I mean, it's one of
:
00:37:52,740 --> 00:37:52,930
those
:
00:37:52,940 --> 00:37:53,340
to me.
:
00:37:53,700 --> 00:37:54,690
That's just early season.
:
00:37:54,690 --> 00:37:55,010
The ODU
:
00:37:55,010 --> 00:37:55,530
baseball is
:
00:37:55,530 --> 00:37:56,340
Rutgers coming in.
:
00:37:56,360 --> 00:37:57,870
So it's always enjoyable
:
00:37:57,880 --> 00:37:58,090
to see
:
00:37:58,090 --> 00:37:58,380
them.
:
00:37:58,536 --> 00:37:59,856
Gary: Yeah, absolutely.
:
00:37:59,856 --> 00:38:03,646
Uh, game Friday at three,
Saturday at two, Sunday at one.
:
00:38:03,646 --> 00:38:06,956
I think they kind of keep that trend
going until it gets a little bit warmer,
:
00:38:06,956 --> 00:38:08,036
get a little more daylight.
:
00:38:08,456 --> 00:38:08,676
CB: Yeah.
:
00:38:08,676 --> 00:38:08,896
Right.
:
00:38:09,086 --> 00:38:11,876
Time change that that becomes,
uh, even though the time change
:
00:38:12,226 --> 00:38:14,606
is still a little early to start
going to the six o'clock games.
:
00:38:14,606 --> 00:38:16,856
You've asked me probably could
have given a few more weeks,
:
00:38:16,866 --> 00:38:17,106
but
:
00:38:17,136 --> 00:38:17,296
that's
:
00:38:17,296 --> 00:38:17,606
how it goes.
:
00:38:17,606 --> 00:38:17,626
yeah,
:
00:38:18,062 --> 00:38:21,232
Gary: We'll enjoy the sunshine
while we can and, uh, love it
:
00:38:21,232 --> 00:38:24,132
When that, that time changes
back, that usually coincides
:
00:38:24,132 --> 00:38:26,822
pretty closely with Major League
Baseball too, and it's pretty nice.
:
00:38:26,822 --> 00:38:30,152
But, all three games, if you're not
able to make it to Norfolk, we'll be
:
00:38:30,152 --> 00:38:35,682
streaming on ESPN Uh, I know Saturday's
game was not streamed on ESPN That is
:
00:38:35,682 --> 00:38:40,922
because the women's basketball game was
on ESPN And right now, with the current
:
00:38:40,942 --> 00:38:45,592
operations and setup, they can only have
one game on campus at a time streaming
:
00:38:45,592 --> 00:38:49,282
through ESPN So, that's the reason why
if you were looking for the game on
:
00:38:49,282 --> 00:38:50,762
Saturday, you weren't able to find it.
:
00:38:51,042 --> 00:38:55,212
Those multi sport, days, uh take their
toll sometimes on the infrastructure
:
00:38:55,212 --> 00:38:58,792
when you don't have a humongous setup,
like some of these big power five schools
:
00:38:58,792 --> 00:39:00,792
with hundreds of millions in TV money
:
00:39:00,792 --> 00:39:01,272
rolling in,
:
00:39:01,272 --> 00:39:02,822
CB: Yeah, our folks are working hard.
:
00:39:02,822 --> 00:39:04,462
We got some really great operations
:
00:39:04,482 --> 00:39:04,792
people and
:
00:39:04,822 --> 00:39:05,822
really great people that
:
00:39:06,242 --> 00:39:08,152
put on our events and put on our games.
:
00:39:08,202 --> 00:39:08,992
Despite
:
00:39:09,202 --> 00:39:11,742
those things being the
limitations we're, we're
:
00:39:11,742 --> 00:39:12,252
better off in
:
00:39:12,252 --> 00:39:13,032
a lot of places.
:
00:39:13,042 --> 00:39:14,042
So it's, it's great that
:
00:39:14,102 --> 00:39:14,912
they're here for us.
:
00:39:14,947 --> 00:39:16,197
Gary: we we do more with
:
00:39:16,197 --> 00:39:16,597
less than
:
00:39:16,597 --> 00:39:16,667
I
:
00:39:16,677 --> 00:39:19,727
think anybody, uh, they, they do a
great job, we've got, you know, some
:
00:39:19,727 --> 00:39:21,687
great camera angles and they got a
:
00:39:21,687 --> 00:39:21,977
very
:
00:39:21,977 --> 00:39:23,507
early test, I mean, the first pitch of
:
00:39:23,507 --> 00:39:27,457
the game on Friday went to review, so
they, uh, they got stretched out pretty
:
00:39:27,457 --> 00:39:27,947
early there.
:
00:39:27,947 --> 00:39:31,227
CB: which was, there were a few, the
ridiculous man, there was, uh, the
:
00:39:31,227 --> 00:39:33,237
umpires for overall did a very good job.
:
00:39:33,247 --> 00:39:36,917
I'm not, you know, while I point this
out, I didn't, I didn't really have a
:
00:39:36,917 --> 00:39:39,567
ton of problem with the strike zones
or, you know, pitches here or there that
:
00:39:39,587 --> 00:39:42,677
happens, but there was one toward the
end of the game yesterday, it was a buyer
:
00:39:42,677 --> 00:39:45,027
actually that, um, they called him out.
:
00:39:45,087 --> 00:39:46,147
I mean, I had a picture
:
00:39:46,147 --> 00:39:46,287
of
:
00:39:46,287 --> 00:39:49,687
it and he, he was touching
the bag and the ball
:
00:39:49,697 --> 00:39:51,067
wasn't even in the picture frame yet.
:
00:39:51,527 --> 00:39:52,777
and he called them out originally.
:
00:39:52,777 --> 00:39:53,967
So there, there were, you know,
:
00:39:53,997 --> 00:39:54,117
they
:
00:39:54,117 --> 00:39:54,457
didn't make.
:
00:39:54,967 --> 00:39:55,497
A lot of
:
00:39:55,497 --> 00:39:56,457
mistakes, but man,
:
00:39:56,457 --> 00:39:56,647
they made
:
00:39:56,647 --> 00:39:57,827
a couple of pretty
:
00:39:57,877 --> 00:39:58,347
egregious
:
00:39:58,633 --> 00:40:01,013
Gary: Well, there were a couple hundred
people in Rally Alley that knew what the
:
00:40:01,013 --> 00:40:02,873
call was and let the umpire know about it.
:
00:40:02,923 --> 00:40:03,763
So tip of
:
00:40:03,763 --> 00:40:07,013
the cap to the crew that was there in
Rally Alley for that play at first base.
:
00:40:07,093 --> 00:40:09,003
Good to keep those umpires on their toes.
:
00:40:09,013 --> 00:40:12,533
They probably don't particularly
like covering first base when
:
00:40:12,533 --> 00:40:14,913
they've got a packed Rally Alley,
especially later in the year.
:
00:40:17,037 --> 00:40:18,177
CB: Yeah, I imagine so
:
00:40:18,923 --> 00:40:22,533
Gary: Yeah, well, we're, we're looking
forward to four great games this
:
00:40:22,533 --> 00:40:22,863
week.
:
00:40:23,203 --> 00:40:24,963
I think a step up in competition.
:
00:40:24,963 --> 00:40:25,553
Absolutely.
:
00:40:25,553 --> 00:40:27,323
With Virginia on Tuesday, but I think
:
00:40:27,333 --> 00:40:31,393
even with Rutgers, I would love to
see the sweep, but I think this is one
:
00:40:31,393 --> 00:40:34,293
where if you walk away winning two out
of three, you're feeling pretty damn
:
00:40:34,293 --> 00:40:35,573
good that you beat a good team twice.
:
00:40:35,573 --> 00:40:37,203
CB: Yeah, and I mean, I
think this is what you want.
:
00:40:37,203 --> 00:40:39,753
I think it's certainly by design, you
know, you Not that george washington's
:
00:40:39,763 --> 00:40:43,413
a pushover, but you want a team that's
not quite at your level and then you
:
00:40:43,763 --> 00:40:47,173
You know, UVA, you can, you step it
up the team above your level and then
:
00:40:47,173 --> 00:40:51,513
Rutgers, you know, again, probably not
quite at your level, uh, but still,
:
00:40:51,513 --> 00:40:54,443
and then see if it up and then we get,
uh, I believe Charlotte's next weekend,
:
00:40:54,453 --> 00:40:58,323
which should be a team that is right
where we are and very competitive.
:
00:40:58,323 --> 00:41:01,733
And then, you know, you got 1 more weekend
and they're right in the conference play.
:
00:41:01,773 --> 00:41:04,473
I mean, again, that's the hope when
you have that, preseason gamut,
:
00:41:04,503 --> 00:41:04,603
you
:
00:41:04,603 --> 00:41:06,193
know, throw an ECU in
:
00:41:06,193 --> 00:41:09,603
there and hopefully you're just ready
to go when conference play starts.
:
00:41:09,603 --> 00:41:10,573
I mean, again, all this is a
:
00:41:10,573 --> 00:41:11,573
great, we want to win every single
:
00:41:11,573 --> 00:41:11,853
game.
:
00:41:11,853 --> 00:41:13,623
It all helps your RPI and
those kinds of things.
:
00:41:13,623 --> 00:41:13,853
But
:
00:41:14,233 --> 00:41:16,083
what really matters is if
you go and win your games in
:
00:41:16,083 --> 00:41:16,793
conference play.
:
00:41:17,034 --> 00:41:17,304
Gary: Yeah.
:
00:41:17,334 --> 00:41:17,814
Some, some
:
00:41:17,844 --> 00:41:18,464
early tests.
:
00:41:18,654 --> 00:41:21,734
I mean, you have the Rutgers series,
then you've got East Carolina coming
:
00:41:21,734 --> 00:41:23,824
to town and Charlotte, uh, you
:
00:41:23,824 --> 00:41:23,994
got
:
00:41:23,994 --> 00:41:24,344
William and
:
00:41:24,374 --> 00:41:24,724
Mary
:
00:41:24,724 --> 00:41:27,094
and then Northeastern,
which Northeastern was
:
00:41:27,094 --> 00:41:31,234
ranked in the preseason, watched a little
bit of their games over the weekend.
:
00:41:31,504 --> 00:41:33,934
So that, that's going to be a
fun one coming to the bud there
:
00:41:33,934 --> 00:41:35,964
that March 8th, 9th and 10th.
:
00:41:36,014 --> 00:41:39,744
Then you get a little reprieve with
Princeton and Georgia Southern, but who
:
00:41:39,744 --> 00:41:43,134
knows with Georgia Southern, I mean,
the Sunbelt is, is going to be crazy.
:
00:41:43,144 --> 00:41:43,164
Yeah.
:
00:41:43,684 --> 00:41:45,114
No telling what happens those weekends.
:
00:41:45,164 --> 00:41:46,074
I'm looking forward to it.
:
00:41:46,074 --> 00:41:50,384
I'm glad that we are on here talking
about actual games and what guys did.
:
00:41:50,654 --> 00:41:53,704
The wait's finally over and now
you're sprinting through a marathon
:
00:41:53,714 --> 00:41:55,464
here until we hopefully get to June.
:
00:41:55,464 --> 00:41:55,884
CB: Yeah.
:
00:41:55,884 --> 00:41:56,874
I mean, it's exciting.
:
00:41:56,884 --> 00:41:58,294
We had, it was a great weekend.
:
00:41:58,804 --> 00:42:00,954
Uh, we saw a lot of positive things.
:
00:42:01,014 --> 00:42:03,854
I hope if you were able to get off the
ballpark, I hope you had a great time.
:
00:42:03,854 --> 00:42:04,914
I hope you, you come back.
:
00:42:04,944 --> 00:42:06,864
We, again, we had, we
did have great crowds.
:
00:42:06,914 --> 00:42:08,204
Um, if you haven't had a chance.
:
00:42:08,699 --> 00:42:09,729
Come out this weekend.
:
00:42:09,729 --> 00:42:12,729
I think, uh, the weather is
looking good Saturday and Sunday.
:
00:42:12,729 --> 00:42:14,229
Anyway, I'm not real
sure about Friday right
:
00:42:14,229 --> 00:42:16,179
now, but Saturday and
Sunday, the weather's looking
:
00:42:16,179 --> 00:42:16,509
good.
:
00:42:16,509 --> 00:42:19,279
So, I mean, come on out and really,
these are some, great kids, if you
:
00:42:19,279 --> 00:42:20,189
had a chance to talk to, some of
:
00:42:20,189 --> 00:42:20,859
the guys
:
00:42:20,909 --> 00:42:22,569
and just, uh,
:
00:42:22,829 --> 00:42:23,039
I
:
00:42:23,469 --> 00:42:23,779
can't say
:
00:42:23,779 --> 00:42:25,419
enough, I mean, I love
ODU baseball and this
:
00:42:25,449 --> 00:42:26,489
this is the best time of year.
:
00:42:26,494 --> 00:42:26,794
Gary: Yeah.
:
00:42:26,824 --> 00:42:27,834
And a good way to support the
:
00:42:27,834 --> 00:42:29,384
team too, is to, to order those
:
00:42:29,394 --> 00:42:31,104
voucher booklets from why not ticks.
:
00:42:31,584 --> 00:42:33,684
Uh, if you log in there, you
actually get some pretty good, uh,
:
00:42:33,724 --> 00:42:34,064
ODAP
:
00:42:34,074 --> 00:42:35,724
points, uh, with that as well.
:
00:42:36,004 --> 00:42:38,314
They're good for all the
spring sports this season.
:
00:42:38,534 --> 00:42:42,104
It helps, directly impact the program
showing the people are coming through,
:
00:42:42,104 --> 00:42:45,494
but I was impressed by the crowds
that came out in 40 degree weather
:
00:42:45,794 --> 00:42:50,944
and man, that first weekend where it's
like 70, 75, uh, the buds going to be
:
00:42:50,944 --> 00:42:55,184
packed and I'm ready for it for, short
sleeves and not looking like the, uh.
:
00:42:55,599 --> 00:42:57,569
The kid from a Christmas
story that can't put his arms
:
00:42:57,569 --> 00:42:57,859
down.
:
00:42:57,859 --> 00:42:58,099
CB: Yeah.
:
00:42:58,129 --> 00:42:58,369
And we're
:
00:42:58,369 --> 00:42:59,729
going to be ranked in the top 25
:
00:42:59,729 --> 00:42:59,919
by
:
00:42:59,919 --> 00:43:01,059
then, you know, it's good, it's going to
:
00:43:01,059 --> 00:43:01,489
be a great
:
00:43:01,790 --> 00:43:02,340
Gary: I love it.
:
00:43:02,380 --> 00:43:06,690
And speaking of merch in apparel,
this week at odiomonarchist.
:
00:43:06,690 --> 00:43:09,580
com, we are officially
launching our merch store.
:
00:43:09,930 --> 00:43:12,230
Uh, so you will see that
out on social media.
:
00:43:12,460 --> 00:43:17,120
We have two items that are specifically
for baseball, that will be on there.
:
00:43:17,600 --> 00:43:21,020
The way we're operating that is any
money that we're making on that is
:
00:43:21,020 --> 00:43:25,290
either kicking back to the pride of
ODU NIL collective for baseball or
:
00:43:25,290 --> 00:43:29,230
whichever specific sport that piece
of apparel was for, or it's going to
:
00:43:29,280 --> 00:43:32,040
ODAF to directly support the program.
:
00:43:32,060 --> 00:43:34,180
So we are not making any money on this.
:
00:43:34,180 --> 00:43:35,735
We are driving all of that money.
:
00:43:35,935 --> 00:43:39,425
Back into the programs that, those,
apparel items are supporting.
:
00:43:39,425 --> 00:43:41,225
We'll have some kind of
general stuff that's going to
:
00:43:41,225 --> 00:43:43,655
go to general funds for ODAF.
:
00:43:44,115 --> 00:43:48,155
Really excited to finally, be getting
that out so that you can get your bud
:
00:43:48,155 --> 00:43:50,395
bomber shirt and all of that good stuff.
:
00:43:50,425 --> 00:43:53,875
And, being able to give back to
the program with some cool gear.
:
00:43:54,115 --> 00:43:57,765
We've actually partnered with Nick
Clark, who was a center for ODU football.
:
00:43:57,985 --> 00:43:59,685
He has a print on demand shop.
:
00:43:59,915 --> 00:44:04,230
So even the people that are
putting the cost out there for it.
:
00:44:04,430 --> 00:44:05,700
Our ODU alum.
:
00:44:05,730 --> 00:44:09,110
So really keeping it all in house and
we're excited to get that going this week.
:
00:44:09,110 --> 00:44:09,850
CB: Well, fantastic.
:
00:44:09,860 --> 00:44:10,040
Go
:
00:44:10,040 --> 00:44:10,270
get,
:
00:44:10,270 --> 00:44:10,380
go
:
00:44:10,380 --> 00:44:10,750
get you some
:
00:44:10,750 --> 00:44:11,230
beer.
:
00:44:11,490 --> 00:44:12,670
Uh, get those hoodies and bring
:
00:44:12,730 --> 00:44:13,580
them out to the ballpark.
:
00:44:13,936 --> 00:44:14,126
Gary: Yeah.
:
00:44:14,126 --> 00:44:14,976
We got to get the beanies.
:
00:44:15,066 --> 00:44:16,966
I think you got a beanie from Aaron on a,
:
00:44:16,976 --> 00:44:17,736
on Sunday.
:
00:44:17,736 --> 00:44:18,886
CB: Yeah, it looks nice.
:
00:44:18,896 --> 00:44:19,706
It's very very
:
00:44:19,706 --> 00:44:20,126
nice
:
00:44:20,186 --> 00:44:21,711
and it will be used little puffy
:
00:44:21,901 --> 00:44:23,461
beanie.
:
00:44:23,521 --> 00:44:25,331
I'll probably Uh deform it a
:
00:44:25,331 --> 00:44:25,751
little bit.
:
00:44:25,971 --> 00:44:26,141
I'm
:
00:44:26,141 --> 00:44:26,831
just personally
:
00:44:26,831 --> 00:44:27,201
not a big
:
00:44:27,201 --> 00:44:28,261
fan of the little puffy
:
00:44:28,327 --> 00:44:28,517
Gary: Yeah.
:
00:44:28,517 --> 00:44:28,847
I got it.
:
00:44:28,927 --> 00:44:29,857
You got to cut the poof ball.
:
00:44:29,857 --> 00:44:30,107
That's it.
:
00:44:30,127 --> 00:44:30,797
My wife ended
:
00:44:30,797 --> 00:44:33,637
up with that one when we did
the first run of them says I'm
:
00:44:33,787 --> 00:44:35,207
not a poof ball hat guy either.
:
00:44:35,207 --> 00:44:35,967
CB: Yeah, so i'm
:
00:44:35,967 --> 00:44:36,157
weird.
:
00:44:36,157 --> 00:44:37,367
I'll do that and then hoodies.
:
00:44:37,367 --> 00:44:38,267
I always take the uh, the
:
00:44:38,267 --> 00:44:40,247
drawstrings out So i'm i'm very
:
00:44:40,387 --> 00:44:40,517
a little
:
00:44:40,547 --> 00:44:41,217
particular about
:
00:44:41,503 --> 00:44:41,703
Gary: Yeah.
:
00:44:41,803 --> 00:44:43,023
Usually my dogs do the
:
00:44:43,023 --> 00:44:44,863
drawstrings in my hoodies for me, so I
:
00:44:44,863 --> 00:44:45,413
don't really get a
:
00:44:45,413 --> 00:44:46,023
choice whether
:
00:44:46,023 --> 00:44:46,813
I want them or not.
:
00:44:47,103 --> 00:44:49,523
Well, I think that's it for us this week.
:
00:44:49,533 --> 00:44:52,173
We're looking forward to four
awesome games coming off of the
:
00:44:52,183 --> 00:44:56,113
sweep of George Washington, CB, any
final notes for our fans out there
:
00:44:56,303 --> 00:44:56,493
and
:
00:44:56,493 --> 00:44:58,463
CB: Again, just come out
and support these guys.
:
00:44:58,513 --> 00:44:59,643
Come out and just enjoy it.
:
00:44:59,653 --> 00:45:00,383
Good entertainment.
:
00:45:00,433 --> 00:45:01,993
It's really good baseball.
:
00:45:02,263 --> 00:45:03,973
They're really good people.
:
00:45:04,163 --> 00:45:05,413
They play very hard.
:
00:45:05,413 --> 00:45:06,263
They're hustling.
:
00:45:06,333 --> 00:45:11,023
Uh, they, they really, they want To do
well and they do well, come out and see
:
00:45:11,023 --> 00:45:14,283
him if you can't quite come out and see
him, you're not, you know, where you can
:
00:45:14,293 --> 00:45:18,878
go watch my ESPN plus really just take
advantage because we have a great team.
:
00:45:18,878 --> 00:45:23,668
We've been one of the best teams on
campus, for a while now, consistently
:
00:45:23,678 --> 00:45:25,678
for years now, and, it's enjoyable.
:
00:45:25,698 --> 00:45:26,478
And this is, this is my
:
00:45:26,478 --> 00:45:27,128
favorite time of year.
:
00:45:27,128 --> 00:45:27,218
I
:
00:45:27,218 --> 00:45:27,588
love it.
:
00:45:27,618 --> 00:45:29,468
I love this, this, the baseball season.
:
00:45:29,498 --> 00:45:29,698
I'm,
:
00:45:29,698 --> 00:45:30,398
never happier.
:
00:45:31,098 --> 00:45:31,478
So,
:
00:45:31,808 --> 00:45:34,298
uh, it's, it's a good time
and I'm, I'm just excited.
:
00:45:34,298 --> 00:45:34,418
It's
:
00:45:34,418 --> 00:45:34,808
here.
:
00:45:34,808 --> 00:45:36,328

Gary: we thank all of you who listened
to the first two episodes of the podcast,
:

uh, hope you're enjoying this one as well.
:
00:45:42,143 --> 00:45:42,323
If you
:
00:45:42,323 --> 00:45:42,613
go to our
:
00:45:42,613 --> 00:45:45,843
social media channel, every Sunday,
we're going to put out that phone number
:
00:45:45,853 --> 00:45:47,333
where you can call And leave a voicemail.
:
00:45:47,593 --> 00:45:51,113
So feel free to give us your thoughts
on, on games over the week, over
:
00:45:51,113 --> 00:45:53,983
the weekend, the best calls will
actually get played on the podcast.

00:45:54,373 --> 00:45:58,093
So feel free to use and abuse that,
tell your friends about the show.

Tell your enemies, subscribe, unsubscribe,
resubscribe, like all of that good stuff.
:
00:46:02,913 --> 00:46:06,063
So we can keep this moving forward
and tell as many people as possible
:
00:46:06,063 --> 00:46:07,303
about old dominion baseball.
:
00:46:07,843 --> 00:46:11,453

all so much for tuning in this week
