Speaker:

Yeah.

2

:

Gary: Hello Monarch fans and welcome

to the Hudson Homers podcast.

3

:

We are coming to you after the Rutgers

series in a game at UVA and looking

4

:

forward to a midweek against number

11 East Carolina and then a weekend

5

:

series at the Bud against Charlotte.

6

:

Coming off a one in three week.

7

:

able to salvage the game

yesterday against Rutgers.

8

:

But CB, how are you feeling today?

9

:

CB: I mean, I feel great.

10

:

Uh, a lot better than I think

I would have felt if we didn't,

11

:

win that game yesterday.

12

:

Um, tough week, you know, when you

go lose to number 14 UVA, it's like,

13

:

all right, you know, number 14,

that's, you lose to him, that's fine.

14

:

Um, losing the series to Rutgers, that,

that didn't feel great, especially

15

:

the way they kind of lost, um, And

halfway through, uh, the game Sunday,

16

:

it was really not looking great for,

uh, getting out of there with anything.

17

:

So it was a, it was a tough week.

18

:

Gary: You and I were standing behind

the plate in the top of the first

19

:

there and Rutgers was really squaring

the baseball up and kind of looked

20

:

at each other like, here we go again.

21

:

This is going to be the saddest podcast

of the year and in episode four.

22

:

But I got to say, I was Proud of the

guys because it would have been really

23

:

easy just to pack it in when you get down

five nothing again You know, that was

24

:

a theme of the weekend ruckers getting

those early leads and ambushing us at

25

:

the plate But they weren't having any of

it the boys rallied came back for a nine

26

:

to five win and You just have a totally

different feel on how your week went

27

:

after pulling out that sunday victory

28

:

CB: Yeah.

29

:

And, you know, and they started turning

things around in that Saturday game

30

:

with the, uh, the six run fifth inning.

31

:

I think that was, it's, it's a real shame

that they weren't able to, to get anything

32

:

else across the rest of that game.

33

:

Cause that really could

have pushed some momentum.

34

:

The bright side is they were

able to do it two days in a row.

35

:

It's not good to get down six,

nothing and five, nothing.

36

:

Uh, but that they were able to on Sunday's

game, mount the big comeback and they'll

37

:

do it all in one inning and get from

that, that, that takes a lot of heart.

38

:

I mean, cause at that point, you know,

after you've done it the day before you

39

:

got down and had to scratch and claw.

40

:

And then gave up a solo home

run and lost the game that way,

41

:

uh, to then have to do it again.

42

:

You know, I mean, it's, it's very

easy to just pack it in and be like,

43

:

all right, it's not our week boys.

44

:

Um, so for them to fight and not

stop and score a bunch of that thing

45

:

and then keep scoring the rest of

the game Yeah, that showed a lot.

46

:

That's that's what you want to see that.

47

:

That's kind of how you Start building

towards something worth having

48

:

Gary: and there's a hundred different

points In a three game series over

49

:

the weekend that you could look

at as, Oh, if we, if we did this,

50

:

we could have won the series.

51

:

If we could have done that, you really

feel that on Saturday, one more hit

52

:

with runners on base, or, you know,

Tyser stepping up to the plate with

53

:

the, the tying run on third, if he

cranks one on top of the parking garage.

54

:

We are sitting there winning two

out of three and feeling really

55

:

good about how the weekend went.

56

:

So baseball is funny like that, where

those just little things can can get you.

57

:

But I didn't make it down for the

game on Friday with the delays

58

:

and everything else going on.

59

:

The weather looked miserable.

60

:

And I feel like there's a distinct

advantage when the weather is miserable.

61

:

If you're able to get a couple run lead,

I feel like a lot of times you're able

62

:

to hold onto that lead just because

it's cold, it's windy, it's rainy,

63

:

and a little tougher to get fired

back up to, to get back into the game.

64

:

CB: Yeah, I actually wasn't at that

game either, which is rare for me.

65

:

I'm, I'm, I rarely miss a

game, uh, if I can avoid it.

66

:

Um, but I, I was just convinced

they weren't going to play.

67

:

The weather was that bad and having

talked to some folks that they

68

:

were there that it's impossible.

69

:

Maybe they shouldn't have played.

70

:

Um, but they did and you said,

I mean, it's, that's not fun

71

:

conditions to play and to hit in.

72

:

Um, it's just hard.

73

:

I heard that some of our pitchers

were saying they had trouble really

74

:

getting a good grip on the ball.

75

:

Um, so it's just, it's a tough night.

76

:

Up to that, up to the point about

the fifth inning on Saturday, there

77

:

really weren't hitting this week.

78

:

Just not a lot of, putting the

ball in play, which you got to do.

79

:

I mean, that's one thing

we saw Rutgers did.

80

:

We saw last week with, George Washington,

they were willing to put the ball in play.

81

:

And we've got to do a lot more of that.

82

:

You know, we've got guys who do it.

83

:

We got to do a lot more of just, putting

some strong contact on the ball and not

84

:

having to have to be over the fence.

85

:

Otherwise not gonna have happy results.

86

:

So we got the talent.

87

:

We got the team we saw yesterday we saw

in the fifth inning on saturday, you know,

88

:

we saw What they can be and it's exciting.

89

:

It's a fun brand of baseball.

90

:

Gary: It is, and speaking of strong

contact, we do have to give you

91

:

the Dollars for Dingers update.

92

:

Uh, the Monarchs now stand at four

after this weekend, with Kyle Edwards

93

:

getting one out of the ballpark, and then

Luke Waters getting one out on Sunday.

94

:

So we are at four now, so make sure

you're saving your Dollars for Dingers.

95

:

We will, continue working on a catchy

theme for CB's challenge here for steals.

96

:

CB: the bucks for bags bucks for bags

and hate Bucks for bags is up to 19

97

:

now guys, 19 through seven games.

98

:

The boys are, are taking them.

99

:

Um, Stephen Meyer can't be stopped.

100

:

Uh, he's, he's six for six, Kyle

Edwards, four for four and steals.

101

:

I mean, these guys are,

they're getting out there.

102

:

They want, they want that donation.

103

:

They say, look, we're not going

to be the same kind of power team.

104

:

We're going to bring some excitement, man.

105

:

I mean Stephen Meyer yesterday

had a perfect day at the plate.

106

:

Um, he first had bat hit a single.

107

:

And then he got hit by a

pitch three different times.

108

:

I personally didn't think

anyone looked that bad.

109

:

I was also standing over there.

110

:

Not the one getting hit but I will say

steve It looks like the kind of guy who

111

:

does not enjoy being hit by a baseball

He did not seem pleased about it and he

112

:

wanted to three times Um, and then they

worked a walk in his last at bat So five

113

:

plate appearances only, uh, one actual at

bat but perfect day and had three steals.

114

:

I mean the kids Trying to make

the bucks for bags happen.

115

:

So, dollar for dinners were up to

four and bucks for bags up to 19.

116

:

So, you know, start, start

saving up your money.

117

:

Be willing to help out this program.

118

:

We got, we got two avenues here.

119

:

Gary: I will definitely commit

to that a dollar for every steal

120

:

and we don't just have 19 steals.

121

:

We are 19 for 19 Uh

stealing bags this year.

122

:

So when they go they're

getting there safely.

123

:

We talked about steven meyer

yesterday just weird baseball oddity

124

:

Two different innings yesterday.

125

:

He was hit by a pitch then stole second

Then scored on a hit from Luke Waters.

126

:

So there was the home run or a

single that, that just screams

127

:

weird to me for baseball.

128

:

Like I'm sure it's happened

before, but it's a weird one.

129

:

CB: I liked about it

too, it is, it is odd.

130

:

I mean, it's stuff like that.

131

:

It's any time the exact same thing

happens, it'd be even more odd

132

:

if Luke could hit a home run both

times in a single both times.

133

:

I was kind of hoping coming in after

the game, Saturday coming to Sunday,

134

:

I was hoping that Finney would switch

up the lineup some, and he did that.

135

:

He moved a few guys around,

gave a couple of guys days off.

136

:

And I like that he had Meyer up

there toward the top of the order.

137

:

Um, it, it would not hurt my feelings

to actually see him batting first and

138

:

seeing, um, Kyle hitting, hitting second.

139

:

But I do like the, you know,

Kyle hits first and then.

140

:

Steven can either, um, bunt him

over or he can single him, you

141

:

know, do whatever he needs to do.

142

:

Um, but I like seeing him

at the top of the order.

143

:

And he's a guy who right now, he's

right now he's leaving the team

144

:

in average, uh, leading on base

by a lot and getting those steals.

145

:

So having him more for the top

of the order where he can cause

146

:

some chaos is a good move.

147

:

And I hope that continues.

148

:

Gary: And over the weekend,

he was three for six.

149

:

He got either six walks or was

hit by a pitch, three steals.

150

:

Three RBIs.

151

:

Uh, so you go, you over the

weekend hitting 500 with an out

152

:

of this world on base percentage.

153

:

I think that's someone you're going to

have to keep at the top of the lineup.

154

:

If he continues his pace, you have to

keep him up at the top of the lineup

155

:

because he was a duck on the pond for

Luke Waters, who also had a fantastic, uh,

156

:

four RBI game yesterday, along with the

home run, really the, the lineup shakeup.

157

:

on, on Sunday, getting Meier

to the top of the order, uh,

158

:

getting some other guys in there.

159

:

And then Luke Waters being able to drive

them home was huge and really propelled

160

:

every time that top of the order came

back through, we were getting guys on

161

:

base once we hit that fourth inning.

162

:

CB: Yeah, that, uh,

going, uh, was Boucher?

163

:

That's a pretty solid four in a row.

164

:

Um, and, and they really

did produce yesterday.

165

:

Gary: Yeah, absolutely.

166

:

Luke ended up going two for three, drove

in four runs, also drew two walks, Boucher

167

:

with one for four, drove in two runs.

168

:

He had a walk, uh, just felt like we had.

169

:

Really strong plate appearances in

the top half of that lineup yesterday.

170

:

Uh, and we executed a perfect hit and

run, uh, in that fourth inning as well

171

:

with Nick Miller, send the runner to

second short stops out of position.

172

:

He pokes one through the left side into

the outfield to keep that rally going.

173

:

So just a, a lot of really good small ball

type things were showing up on Sunday.

174

:

CB: And that at bat from, from Nick

Miller was such a, that was so great to

175

:

see because he's a guy, you know, I've

only seen him since he's been here in

176

:

the fall, um, as a juco kid from Texas,

and he's one of those guys, he looks

177

:

every time like he wants to take a swing

to hit the ball out of the ballpark.

178

:

Um, and he kind of has this, this swing

that's, it's a very all or nothing.

179

:

Um, and so seeing him.

180

:

Shortened up and just he the swing

actually looked kind of awkward But it

181

:

was really just because he was pulling his

hands in And he had trying to get a good

182

:

spot on the barrel and he that I mean that

was just an excellent piece of hitting and

183

:

so that was a guy who Went kind of against

what his I think approach is at the

184

:

plate To do what the team needed to do in

that moment and that's fantastic to see.

185

:

I mean, that's a really big deal

186

:

Gary: I think it'll be adjustment

for some of the guys who probably

187

:

coming up all through high school

and travel ball were told elevate,

188

:

elevate, elevate, get the ball up

and now exit velocity, all of that.

189

:

And that's still important

for what we're trying to do.

190

:

But I think we're a little more, how

about a little more level swing, focus on

191

:

contact, don't swing out of your shoes.

192

:

So it's good to see guys that

are able to make that adjustment.

193

:

I think some are making it a little

bit quicker than others as well.

194

:

CB: yeah, I mean it's such a you know,

the modern baseball hitting philosophy it

195

:

gets So misconstrued it gets misconstrued

by fans and then pundits and so I know

196

:

it gets misconstrued by People who are

trying to teach it, the idea of Launch

197

:

angle x velocity all that is the idea

is to create a swing that creates the

198

:

highest Exit velocity with the most

optimal launch angle, you know launch

199

:

angles I mean, so you always hear like

all these guys these hall of fame type

200

:

hitters, you know, um, Miguel Cabrera

is one that comes to the top of my mind.

201

:

He's like, yeah, I don't care

about exit velocity Miguel you

202

:

do you absolutely care about it?

203

:

You you you produce I know for a fact

you can't have the amazing hall of

204

:

fame career that guy had without caring

about it He was every single day working

205

:

his crap to make sure he was Having

his swing in the exact perfect way

206

:

to create this exact perfect result.

207

:

Now he might not have said, I'm trying

to create a 23 degree launch angle or

208

:

26, whatever that perfect angle is.

209

:

Uh, but he was doing the right things.

210

:

And so at that you're right, it becomes.

211

:

When it gets watered down and

misconstrued, it becomes, well, elevate.

212

:

Well, it's not elevate.

213

:

It's, it's creative swing that creates

that natural, again, 23 degrees.

214

:

It's not a huge level of elevation.

215

:

It's not a big Scott rocket up in the air.

216

:

It's a very natural, I mean, I think a

chipper Jones, I think of that perfect,

217

:

just level, even swing, hit the ball

extremely hard at that perfect angle.

218

:

And yeah, so it is frustrating.

219

:

And you see it a lot with, you know,

the more amateur baseball, you go down

220

:

,I got to see like a 12, you travel

ball team and these kids are trying

221

:

to, trying to elevate and celebrate.

222

:

It's like, bro, you're, you're way above

10, like hit a line drive swing and the

223

:

ball will, you know, the ball again.

224

:

I mean, you see, I'll say

Freddie Freeman was a guy.

225

:

I remember I saw Freddie Freeman.

226

:

He was 18 years old.

227

:

He was a, he was a six

foot five skinny as a post.

228

:

Um, and, but all he was trying

to do was hit line drives.

229

:

And because he, if somebody got to him and

got smart and said, look, you're as big as

230

:

you are, the older you get, the bigger you

get, the more home runs are going to fall.

231

:

And now the guy hits 30, 40 home runs

regularly, no problem because he's

232

:

always just focused on the swing.

233

:

So if you focus on the line

drive, the rest happens.

234

:

I think the guys that try to hit

home runs, you're going to fail.

235

:

Gary: And the home runs we saw

over the weekend were exactly

236

:

what you're talking about.

237

:

They are line drives that there are no

doubters because they're hit so hard, but

238

:

they are not those ones that are up there

into the lights or anything like that.

239

:

They're, you know what, if it's a little

bit lower of a launch angle, it's going

240

:

to pound off the wall and be a double.

241

:

Uh, but, but, you know, both Kyle and Luke

were able to get them up and out of the

242

:

ballpark and, and really, really sparked

some things for us on Saturday and Sunday.

243

:

But just to finish the conversation

out about the game on Sunday, I know

244

:

we've talked a lot about hitting, uh,

245

:

CB: Oh, my goodness.

246

:

I mean,

247

:

Gary: Really, strong pitching performers

as Trent Buchanan started out a little

248

:

bit shaky, after the game, coach Finwood

was saying, didn't know if he was just

249

:

tight or if it was the cold or what it

was, but he really settled in after having

250

:

a rough first couple outs there, getting

that done, but he was able to lock it in.

251

:

Uh, he was actually gonna bring

Trent back out for additional

252

:

innings is he only threw 66 pitches.

253

:

But we had that long fourth inning.

254

:

We had a longer fifth inning.

255

:

Uh, and coach Finwood just didn't want

to take the chance of putting it back

256

:

out there and letting him get hot.

257

:

But who comes to the rescue?

258

:

But you have Previous guest of the

Hudson homers podcast, Jacob Gomez,

259

:

and I'll let you talk all about Jacob.

260

:

I know you're excited about him too.

261

:

CB: I'm excited about both of them.

262

:

I love, um, that, Trent,

yeah, first inning was rough.

263

:

Um, it was a four run to the

first and not really, they didn't

264

:

really hit the ball that hard.

265

:

They were just kind of bleeding

and it was kind of what was

266

:

happening a lot of the week.

267

:

Just a little, little.

268

:

You know death by a thousand cuts.

269

:

Um, so it was great to see him Fight

back and fight through and then and

270

:

again, I I commended the staff last

week about this I commended this week.

271

:

They're letting guys fight through

stuff and I I think it's how you develop

272

:

pitchers It's how you develop guys who

can win for you at the end of the year

273

:

Is by letting them fight through stuff

when it's early on Um, and so and then

274

:

yeah, but jacob just came out and I mean

the kid is he's dynamite, man He is on

275

:

You're hard pressed to find somebody

better and on and just talking trash

276

:

the whole time as he's getting guys out.

277

:

He is, um Electric to watch is again.

278

:

It's very hard as a pitcher to be

someone who is not just your stuff is

279

:

actually entertaining But to just be

like a presence who is it was imposing

280

:

and entertaining on the mound and Gomez

He's worth the price of admission, uh

281

:

for scoreless innings for strikeouts,

uh, just one walk what three hits So he

282

:

scattered a few hits here and there and

again, they kept him out there I mean i'll

283

:

tell you i'm over there in the bullpen.

284

:

Nobody's warming up in the bullpen.

285

:

That was his game great to

see just phenomenal pitching

286

:

on, uh, the Sunday game.

287

:

Gary: And two of those four strikeouts

were in the ninth inning and he was

288

:

absolutely letting the batters hear

about it when he struck them out,

289

:

pumping up the dugout, pumping up the

guys on the field as a team on Sunday.

290

:

We only threw 126 pitches

just for some reference.

291

:

Rutgers threw 163.

292

:

So it two pitchers combining for only 126

pitches, uh, to get you through a Sunday.

293

:

That's pretty rare.

294

:

Cause that's usually when you're rolling

through some arms there in the bullpen.

295

:

Uh, so glad to see that bounce back.

296

:

Uh, I know cause it was a rough

early going for our pitchers

297

:

on Friday and on Saturday.

298

:

CB: No, it was, I mean, Sunday, obviously

when you only win one game in a week, it's

299

:

easy to have that be the most fun and most

memorable best game, but there was a lot

300

:

to love about the Sunday game as far as

just the heart and fight the guy showed.

301

:

And then like I said, they were, they

showed us signs of it on Saturday.

302

:

So it's great to see that they were

able to, even when they got down, push

303

:

through because it's so easy to just

be like, all right, well, you know

304

:

what, full of invoice, that's fine.

305

:

And then not doing that, that was huge.

306

:

Gary: Yeah, we've heard from players

and coaches about how the chemistry of

307

:

this team reminds them a lot of that 21

team, and that's all well and good, but

308

:

what does that chemistry do when you

face adversity when you go to UVA and

309

:

you get shut out and you have a clunker

of a game on a Friday to start the

310

:

series and you come up just short and

I'll come back Saturday like, You see

311

:

that, that chemistry and that leadership

within the team show up a little bit on

312

:

Sunday when things are still not going

well and coming back to get that win.

313

:

So I hope that's a good teachable

moment for both the coaching staff,

314

:

but also the leadership within the

team there to say, look, if we keep

315

:

doing what we're doing, keep working

towards this, we can win ball games.

316

:

Uh, and you know, don't let those

moments drag you down too much

317

:

to where, we're not able to come

back, but love that resiliency.

318

:

Rejoiner: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

319

:

Gary: We talked about the good game.

320

:

We talked a lot about Sunday.

321

:

We do need to talk about

the other games as well.

322

:

Just to make things

pretty, pretty fair here.

323

:

Uh, got

324

:

CB: I mean, are we obligated, you

know, it's, uh, all right, we'll

325

:

talk, I mean, we'll talk about it

because there are lessons to learn.

326

:

Gary: Yeah, and we got to talk

about, you know, the game in

327

:

Charlottesville, uh, during the week,

you know, I, that game was, did not

328

:

feel like an eight nothing game.

329

:

They kind of stretched it out later on.

330

:

Uh, I think the, the interesting thing

there is we got 10 guys on base in

331

:

that game and we left them all on base.

332

:

So we had.

333

:

opportunities with guys on base.

334

:

We just needed that, that extra hit.

335

:

We needed one more play here or there.

336

:

We needed to bounce to go our way to

kind of get back in that game early

337

:

because, you know, it's, it's still a

two nothing ball game there in the fifth

338

:

and we were neck and neck with them.

339

:

CB: Yeah, we, we

definitely were with them.

340

:

It, that was one, you're right.

341

:

It didn't feel like, like if you told

me the final score of that game is eight

342

:

to nothing, I was kind of surprised.

343

:

It just kind of bled away a

little bit there at the end,

344

:

but we, We hung with them.

345

:

Um, again, just not getting

enough hits and timely spots.

346

:

Um, and again, I think

Finney's mentioned this.

347

:

It just comes down to approach.

348

:

It comes down to, you know, how

you're attacking the at bats.

349

:

Um, a few of our guys are kind of

very caught in between right now.

350

:

It seems like they're kind of, it's

like they want to work the count,

351

:

but then when it's time to be

aggressive, they're kind of stuck.

352

:

And so there's a little bit of, um,

I think right now would definitely

353

:

be one to tell you, like he he's.

354

:

He's kind of in between.

355

:

It seems like he's not

seeing the ball great now.

356

:

I looked like on the, he got, uh, I don't

think I wanted that or two of bats on

357

:

Sunday, but his last at bat that he had

on Sunday, he was seeing the ball a lot

358

:

better, had a really nice swing on it.

359

:

Um, so hopefully he's getting out of it.

360

:

Um, but yeah, definitely.

361

:

Um, yeah, definitely an approach situation

where it just weren't making it happen.

362

:

Gary: Virginia brought

back a lot of their lineup.

363

:

I think the question mark on them,

at least in the preseason was what's

364

:

their pitching going to look like.

365

:

But this is a team that is I would guess

would likely lead to ACC in scoring.

366

:

They've got some dudes

that can hit the ball.

367

:

They square it up.

368

:

They make you pay on mistakes,

which is something else we saw

369

:

from Rutgers over the weekend.

370

:

But, they're going to be

a legit good ball club.

371

:

But I'm glad that we're

getting two more shots at them.

372

:

Uh, one more in Charlottesville

that one at Harbor park, unless, you

373

:

know, that gets canceled for a lot of

another third or fourth year in a row.

374

:

Hopefully that, that holds up, but.

375

:

I like our chances a little bit

more catching them later here in the

376

:

season, getting two more shots at

them, uh, and seeing what we can do.

377

:

I'd love to get one, if not two of

those games, For potential postseason

378

:

purposes, but also just the confidence

building of beating a team that's

379

:

ranked and that, that got you pretty good

380

:

early in the season.

381

:

CB: There's no reason we can't beat them.

382

:

It's just you gotta perform.

383

:

Um, and hopefully, you know, we got

some games coming up here this week.

384

:

They'll get us ready for them next time.

385

:

Yeah, I, I, you talk about their lineup.

386

:

I love, um, Harrison did a

wick of their, um, outfielder.

387

:

Uh, he went to Western

branch here in Chesapeake.

388

:

Um, just, I've been watching

him play since he was about

389

:

a freshman in high school.

390

:

And he's just a fantastic

kid, fantastic ball player.

391

:

I kept trying to push him on ODU

every time I saw him and I even, you

392

:

know, knowing that he probably wasn't

going to pick us compared to, uh, you

393

:

know, people, they see the big power

five school and they're not going to

394

:

pick ODU, unfortunately, which, uh,

but, clearly he shows you belong.

395

:

So it's good to see.

396

:

And then, The starter in that game for

him was Cullen McKay from, uh, from Maury.

397

:

And he, you know, great job kid had

a Tommy John surgery in high schools.

398

:

It was great to see him performing well.

399

:

So yeah, we got, you know, I

don't like UVA in general, but I

400

:

could root for some of their kids.

401

:

Gary: Yeah, pick, pick the ones you like.

402

:

I mean, did awake was great.

403

:

He started the scoring.

404

:

He hit that solo home run, ended

up having two hits on the day.

405

:

Uh, but really just top to

bottom with that lineup.

406

:

They're in good shape, uh, in terms of the

bats that they're bringing to the dish and

407

:

just being able to turn that lineup over.

408

:

And if, if Colin McKay is, is

going to be their quote unquote,

409

:

number four guy, they're.

410

:

Likely going to be in

good shape there as well.

411

:

But we will move on from

that, that eight nothing game.

412

:

And we'll, uh, we'll talk

about UVA more later in the

413

:

season.

414

:

CB: Let's talk about.

415

:

Steven Trone, though.

416

:

I mean, this is a guy, he's a sophomore,

side armor, didn't get a lot of shots

417

:

last year, but so far he's come in a

couple games when things were, you know,

418

:

we're, right now they kind of got him

coming in games when they're out of hand,

419

:

but Steven's been, you know, just throwing

great in both, so I want to, he's a guy

420

:

that doesn't get a lot of attention, so

I want to make sure to give him a nod

421

:

and say, hey, because if you look at the

line of that game, he's about the only

422

:

guy that really came out of it unscathed.

423

:

Um, other guys, you know, came in,

got it out here or there, but he had a

424

:

whole inning to end it and did great.

425

:

So I want to give

426

:

Gary: Yeah.

427

:

And he also threw really well on Friday

coming in as the first arm out of the

428

:

pen pitching, ending in the third, uh,

no runs, two hits had three strikeouts.

429

:

So he struck out half the

batters that he faced.

430

:

So he.

431

:

Came in in a situation where we kind of

need to stop the bleeding a little bit.

432

:

And I think he did a great job there

and then getting three strikeouts.

433

:

Uh, another arm that I didn't

want to talk about, you know,

434

:

Lincoln ransom, uh, coming in on

Friday, uh, he, he pitched as well.

435

:

Did end up giving up a couple of runs,

uh, but he had three strikeouts in

436

:

his first appearance as a pitcher for

437

:

ODU.

438

:

CB: And Kyle Finn had a great couple of

innings at the end of the game Friday too.

439

:

Even in some, some not great

outcomes, there were some great

440

:

Gary: Yeah, and hopefully that's,

experience that they're going to take

441

:

forward with them into the next few

weekends, but it was good to get some run

442

:

from some of these other arms, I guess

that's the one upside to, starters,

443

:

maybe not staying in the game as long,

but, Friday was, was really a tough

444

:

one right from the jump Rutgers goes

up to nothing in the first, by the

445

:

end of the second, it's five, nothing.

446

:

Uh, and really we, weren't in that game.

447

:

Kyle obviously hit the, this, The solo

shot, uh, I'm sorry to run shot there

448

:

on Friday, uh, to get us on the board,

but, uh, tough, tough sledding on

449

:

Friday.

450

:

CB: Like I said, I was convinced

they weren't going to play.

451

:

I went home and actually just

laid down and, uh, I fell asleep.

452

:

And by the time I got

up, the game was over.

453

:

Uh, so I, I was, uh, sad that I

missed it, but also not sad based

454

:

on the

455

:

Gary: Yeah, I watched the

game on the stream, uh, forced

456

:

the wife to watch it as well.

457

:

But it felt like Rutgers, they

really came out there on that

458

:

Friday, looking to ambush us.

459

:

If there was anything remotely

over the plate, they were putting

460

:

it in play a lot of infield

singles, getting some blue pits.

461

:

Uh, they were taking advantage of, Yeah,

any, any ball that was down in the dirt

462

:

trying to take an extra base, uh, Then

we did have three errors in that game

463

:

as well That led to some runs of the 10

runs that were scored only seven were

464

:

earned Uh, so just this didn't feel like

we could get an out there for a little

465

:

while for one reason or another uh, so

it just uh Just a game I think you kind

466

:

of have to flush a little bit that that

didn't go your way and you got beat by

467

:

a good Team that brought out a great

starter and coppola, uh who pitched well

468

:

had nine strikeouts and six innings.

469

:

I mean, that's It's going to be tough

to beat a Friday starter like that

470

:

when they're throwing that well, and

you just don't have anything going

471

:

CB: yeah, I mean, you were mentioning

the other day that, uh, Rutgers, the team

472

:

is like you said, if there's a way you

can bet on them for the future, they're,

473

:

they're, uh, they're good looking team.

474

:

They got some, some good pitchers

and they got some really good hitters

475

:

and that they're, they came in

and showed themselves to be a very

476

:

solid

477

:

Gary: We don't have a sports

betting podcast yet in the

478

:

Monarchist Podcast Network.

479

:

If one of those companies wants

to pay us, we're happy to do it.

480

:

But, futures on Big Ten, uh, champion

for Rutgers, probably be smart.

481

:

Maybe take a little, uh, look at

the odds for World Series, because I

482

:

think that they're going to surprise

a lot of teams in the Big Ten.

483

:

CB: Yeah, I couldn't begin to tell

you who's in the big 10, but it was

484

:

at the Ohio state and Penn state.

485

:

Some of the, some of the schools

don't even have a baseball

486

:

team, but I

487

:

Gary: Yeah, Indiana and Iowa, I

think, are their two ranked teams in

488

:

the Big Ten right now, and they're

the odds on favorites to win it.

489

:

Rutgers is a team that I feel

like what they do is going to

490

:

hold up well because they're doing

a lot of the stuff we want to.

491

:

Put the ball in play, they run well,

they don't have a lot of big velo

492

:

guys in their starting rotation.

493

:

But they locate well.

494

:

They have a lot of late break, a lot

of late movement on their pitching.

495

:

Uh, it felt like anytime we did make good

contact, we were just driving it right

496

:

into the dirt in front of home plate.

497

:

And it wasn't for a lack of a bad swing.

498

:

It was just that those

pitches were moving late.

499

:

They've got some good potential there.

500

:

We obviously talked to Bobby D.

501

:

Uh, I think we settled up his tab

a little bit and talked to him.

502

:

But, Joey played a, pretty

big role there on Saturday

503

:

CB: Yeah, I mean, the outcome isn't what

we as, as Monarch fans really want to

504

:

see, but, um, you know, as Joey D is a

kid again, kid I've known since he was

505

:

in high school, since he was committed to

ODU, um, and got to see him play for four

506

:

years here, and he's just a great kid,

his dad's a great guy, his uncle was there

507

:

taking pictures, his uncle's a great guy

too, just a whole good family, he came in

508

:

in the ninth inning when they needed him.

509

:

They were up by one run.

510

:

Um, he tried to give us a

chance to me for a minute.

511

:

There was looking like, you know,

I mean, Joey had four years here.

512

:

He really never got a chance to really

establish himself in a strong way as a

513

:

reliable guy, because he was, he was wild.

514

:

You know, he had this, he had

all this stuff in the world lefty

515

:

that can probably hit 97, I think

it really pumps it up there.

516

:

Um, but wasn't always wild.

517

:

And so he came and came out

there in the, in the ninth

518

:

inning and gave us opportunities.

519

:

We put some guys on base and,

but he was able to shut the door.

520

:

And I mean, he saw that video was going

around all the different, Twitters

521

:

and things were, were sharing it.

522

:

He was pumped, and he deserved it.

523

:

He came in and it was emotional

for him and he celebrated.

524

:

And I mean, I told him at the

end of the game yesterday, I

525

:

said, Hey man, that was awesome.

526

:

I said, I'm sad that we lost the

game, but it's just a baseball game.

527

:

Um, you know, at the end of the day,

that was a, that was a big important

528

:

moment for him and he showed up

big and you get to celebrate and

529

:

enjoy it.

530

:

Gary: and he has that established

role at Rutgers too, where

531

:

he's going to be the closer.

532

:

Those are the situations that he's

going to be coming into all season long.

533

:

And I think that has helped build

some confidence in him, but, there

534

:

was a lot of pressure on him.

535

:

The Odu dugout, that was the loudest

that they were all game is when he came

536

:

in to pitch one run game in the bottom

of the ninth, uh, doesn't get much more

537

:

pressure packed than that, especially

early in the season, playing the school

538

:

that you were at for a long time.

539

:

You know, a lot of those guys,

uh, and it came down to it.

540

:

I mean, he, he was going up against Tyser,

our best power hitter, and he was able

541

:

to strike him out and win that battle.

542

:

So obviously we're Odu fans first,

and we wanted Odu to win that game,

543

:

and I was hoping for, for Tyser to.

544

:

To put one into the chemistry building

545

:

CB: Oh, yeah.

546

:

Gary: you know, uh,

547

:

CB: I was on that little perch that

I like to stand for a walk off, you

548

:

know, for like a walk off celebration.

549

:

I was, I was in the spot.

550

:

So I was, I was definitely hoping for it.

551

:

I mean, I was like, I, I, I love Joey, but

I want nothing more than for Tyson to hit.

552

:

I, frankly, I wanted Tyson to hit

a single and just tie the game up.

553

:

Let's just keep playing it.

554

:

That's fine too.

555

:

But yeah, I was hoping he'd park one.

556

:

Um, yeah, you're right.

557

:

I mean, obviously we're ODU fans, Joey's a

great kid, love the guy, but I would have

558

:

loved nothing better in that moment than

for him to cough it up, but he didn't.

559

:

And that's competition.

560

:

You got to take your hat off to the kid.

561

:

He competed, he won and

say, okay, great, man.

562

:

I love you, buddy.

563

:

I'm not mad at

564

:

you cause you

565

:

Gary: yeah, credit where credit

is due to, to come through in a

566

:

pressure pack situation for sure.

567

:

I know that a lot of people there at

ODU and including us will be keeping

568

:

an eye on him and Rutgers throughout

the year, I think we actually got

569

:

an open invite to come up for a

Rutgers series, uh, at some point.

570

:

So, uh, you know, we'll, we'll see

how that plays out here through the

571

:

spring, but it was a good ending

to the game, even though it had.

572

:

It started raining there in the

eighth, the temperature had dropped

573

:

again, uh, but the fans that did stay

around were, were treated to a really

574

:

entertaining end to the ball game.

575

:

Uh, I went over to men's basketball

after that senior night, crazy win.

576

:

So it was just a day of soaking in a lot

577

:

of ODU athletics.

578

:

CB: Yeah.

579

:

Oh, and, and since we're, you

mentioned ODU basketball, congrats

580

:

to Jeff Jones on his career.

581

:

He was outstanding for us.

582

:

He was everything, I think, that

represents Old Dominion well.

583

:

Um, and he did a good job of, you

know, having his players and his

584

:

team to represent Old Dominion well.

585

:

And so, I mean, he's a guy

who's always, always been a

586

:

staple of the baseball games.

587

:

Um, and just always just

a wonderful human being.

588

:

And so it's a, you know,

again, congrats to him.

589

:

We appreciate everything he did for us.

590

:

Gary: Absolutely.

591

:

He's one of the toughest human

beings that exists on this planet.

592

:

He has been through a lot.

593

:

Uh, so wish him nothing but a

healthy and happy retirement.

594

:

Enjoy it.

595

:

I know that he will still remain

plugged into the ODU community.

596

:

So love to see ODU fans go out and support

him as he kind of continues down this

597

:

journey but, more on that from, uh, some

of the other shows on our network with

598

:

Mike and Aaron on the,, The basketball

show, uh, and a few other things.

599

:

And of course, we will keep you

updated with everything we know about

600

:

the coaching search and what's going

through there, but I'll just say who,

601

:

CB: Yeah, I'm sure that's all be like, all

right, I guarantee that be unlikely that

602

:

I know who and I saw somebody said drew

williamson I'm, like I would know who he

603

:

is.

604

:

That's about

605

:

it

606

:

Gary: well, if you've listened to

rap music from the, the:

607

:

understand the reference of who

and the name that comes after that.

608

:

We'll see how everything plays

out, but I've seen a lot of tweets

609

:

mentioning a few names from some

teams that are around here that think

610

:

ODU fans will get excited about.

611

:

But, back to baseball,

drop the game Saturday.

612

:

Come back to when it's Sunday.

613

:

We we've talked about that.

614

:

Let's take a look ahead.

615

:

Uh, you know, we've got to shake off

the one in three week pretty quickly.

616

:

There's no room for worrying about

last week as you move forward

617

:

with this crazy schedule we have.

618

:

And it starts on Tuesday, number

11, East Carolina coming to the bud.

619

:

CB: I didn't realize there were 11.

620

:

I knew there were top 25 with 11.

621

:

Okay, and ecu is always a challenge.

622

:

They're always tough, um, they Travel

well, so they have some there's always

623

:

some fans They come in and want to act

like ecu fans, which is not always to me

624

:

the most pleasant thing to have around

but their their teams always compete

625

:

very well and they're fun to watch.

626

:

They're fun baseball to watch too because

they're so Different because they have

627

:

so many guys that will play the field and

pitch So that's always really interesting

628

:

to watch, you know, gotta go from third

base to pitcher and then back to shortstop

629

:

and the shortstop goes to center field

and they I would I used to keep a box

630

:

score when I watch games and I I think I

would hate watching a ecu game doing that

631

:

Gary: Yeah.

632

:

They've always been a tough team.

633

:

They've hosted many, many regionals.

634

:

So far this year, they are five

and two to start the season.

635

:

Uh, swept writer to start the season

really just, I mean, absolutely destroyed

636

:

writer that entire series, uh, turned

around for their midweek after that.

637

:

And that actually lost a game on the road

at Campbell university is a one run game.

638

:

It was a good ball game, but they are.

639

:

coming up to Norfolk after a three game

set with UNC, where they went two and

640

:

one, they dropped the game on Friday,

came back to win Saturday, one on Sunday.

641

:

Obviously North Carolina also ranked

also another great baseball program.

642

:

Maybe we catch them, sleeping

a little bit after that.

643

:

Maybe they're a little tired after

the big emotional game against

644

:

their in state rival there, but

they were able to win that series.

645

:

CB: Or maybe we should

show up and play like.

646

:

we can play and beat them I mean,

this is one of those things like we

647

:

don't need to catch anybody sleeping.

648

:

We have an extremely deep

Extremely talented team and

649

:

they can just show up and play.

650

:

Well, that's always one of the things

to me that and i'm not Pick it on you

651

:

gary because I know that's that's a

very common kind of way to talk about

652

:

things You know, we'll catch them sleep.

653

:

It's like oh, we'll just how about

we'll just show up and play to

654

:

our best of our ability We'll beat

them because we're really good.

655

:

That's all that's

656

:

always gets

657

:

Gary: We've, beaten him

plenty of times in the past.

658

:

I'm not worried about that.

659

:

I'm thinking, how do we cruise to like 12

to 2, 13 to 4, something like that is, is

660

:

kind of,

661

:

CB: that'd be

662

:

fun.

663

:

Gary: Kind of what I'm thinking

there, but it looks like they're going

664

:

to start their, lefty Ethan Norby.

665

:

He hasn't thrown a lot this season.

666

:

He's only had two outings, two innings

pitch, given up two earned runs.

667

:

So I imagine that similar to what you're

going to see on the ODU side, it's

668

:

going to be primarily a staff day with

a lot of guys coming out of the bullpen.

669

:

Obviously it's a big one and we'll

have a return trip down there

670

:

to Greenville later in the year.

671

:

But, unfortunately this game is not going

to be streaming on ESPN plus, and it is

672

:

because the women's basketball team is

home that day being streamed on ESPN plus.

673

:

Uh, and that is part of

the Sunbelt contract there.

674

:

We can't do two games at once just

yet, and they may run into each other.

675

:

Uh, but you'll be able to

follow on the live stats.

676

:

I'm sure there'll be some other

ways to follow along as well.

677

:

CB: well.

678

:

and the good news is, if you're in

the area, the weather is beautiful.

679

:

Um, now I personally, I'm about

to work to a certain point, I'm

680

:

gonna miss about half the game.

681

:

Um, but the weather, it

should be in the 60s.

682

:

Uh, it should be a real nice day, so

if you find yourself able to get over

683

:

to ODU to watch the game, uh, go.

684

:

And also, since, you know, you

mentioned that they went to

685

:

Campbell, they're coming here.

686

:

Let's give ECU credit for

being willing to go play teams.

687

:

Um, there's so many college programs.

688

:

ECU has been very good for a while.

689

:

I'm thinking about the last 10, 15 years,

they've been a very good team consistently

690

:

and they're willing to go places.

691

:

Plenty of teams, if they had

the equivalent to Campbell.

692

:

In their state, they're not

going to go play them right.

693

:

And you see you that they don't, they

don't have any problem with treating

694

:

people well and have had built

relationships with other teams, other

695

:

programs and going and traveling.

696

:

And I think that's fantastic.

697

:

They've, they've always been willing

to come here and do those, the

698

:

home and aways and play games here.

699

:

And that's good, good on them for, for

being what the sport's supposed to be

700

:

about.

701

:

Gary: Absolutely.

702

:

And I feel like that carries over

to pretty much all their teams.

703

:

We have a pretty long series with

them and in football as well.

704

:

But the big news for this game, that

we broke on Sunday, afterwards in

705

:

the post game, conversation with

coach Finwood, Blake Morgan is going

706

:

to get the start for old dominion.

707

:

The lefty will be back on the mound,

likely only going two or three innings,

708

:

but I am really excited that he is at

the point where They feel comfortable

709

:

putting them on the mound, giving them a

couple of innings, and seeing what he's

710

:

got, let him return to form because we've

talked about it on all of our episodes.

711

:

What a weapon to add in this season,

especially as we get into conference play.

712

:

CB: That's I mean, it's fantastic.

713

:

And then in credit to Blake for working

his butt off and, and frankly, just being

714

:

lucky enough not to have any setbacks.

715

:

Um, because I mean, that's the

thing, no matter how hard you work,

716

:

you can't have any control over.

717

:

So, but it's, that's fantastic, man.

718

:

I'm excited.

719

:

I, again, I'll probably miss him getting,

getting to see him pitch this time, uh,

720

:

which is a shame, but at the same time, he

doesn't need me to be there to pitch well.

721

:

Um, yeah.

722

:

But so, so hopefully it comes out and

again, just don't, I'm sure he'll be, you

723

:

know, anxious trying to prove too much

at once, but hopefully he can just settle

724

:

in, relax, just be himself and just throw

and hopefully have that, that confidence

725

:

in his leg and his landing point.

726

:

And uh, and just go out and

727

:

perform.

728

:

Gary: Yeah.

729

:

We're hoping it's the first

of many starts that we get

730

:

to see from Blake

731

:

Morgan

732

:

So you'll, you may miss the first one,

but hopefully you're catching quite

733

:

a few more, uh, the rest of the way.

734

:

So big one on Tuesday against

East Carolina over at the bud.

735

:

Looking forward to the weekend.

736

:

We've got a three game set with Charlotte.

737

:

They're coming to town.

738

:

They have a midweek

with Wofford this week.

739

:

Uh, but as of today, they are

They've had an interesting schedule.

740

:

Uh, their trip to Norfolk will

be their first away game of the

741

:

season, but they dropped two out

of three to Virginia tech at home.

742

:

Uh, they played Davidson

and beat Davidson 24 to one.

743

:

Then they had a four game set

with West Virginia where they

744

:

played a doubleheader on Saturday.

745

:

They lost the first two games

that series, they won the last

746

:

two, both of them by one run, but.

747

:

Interesting to get names like that on

your schedule and not have had to play

748

:

a game away from your home ballpark yet.

749

:

CB: I guess tech won't come play us, but

they'll go play them That's all right.

750

:

Whatever they want to

do Good good for them.

751

:

I i'll never understand the

way tech and uva uh Do their

752

:

programs, but that's me when

753

:

Gary: Yeah, we see a bleed over

to some other sports as well.

754

:

There's some, some,

755

:

CB: I said their programs I meant

like Athletics of the whole they

756

:

they just I mean again, but then

again that comes down to the whole

757

:

ethos and attitude of those schools.

758

:

They're very stuck up.

759

:

No, they're not the hard working man.

760

:

Like bill

761

:

dominion

762

:

Gary: yeah, that is absolutely right.

763

:

Well, we're going to have a

pretty hardworking team coming

764

:

to the bud this weekend.

765

:

Charlotte, four and four, obviously

that's been a good rivalry for us

766

:

back from the conference USA days.

767

:

And I'm glad it's continued into

the non conference close team

768

:

that is usually right on par with

us with whatever they're doing.

769

:

So it's a true measuring stick.

770

:

One thing I'll say is they hit

obviously more home runs for us.

771

:

I think they have 11 on the year through

eight games Uh interesting stat for odu.

772

:

We've actually only given up two home runs

all season, which is very very interesting

773

:

I think it was uva and then we gave up

one to to ruckers there on saturday.

774

:

Carson Bain is one to keep

your eye on for Charlotte.

775

:

He's already hit three

home runs in 26 at bats.

776

:

And then Thad Ector, he is, one of

their outfielders, really good speed

777

:

guy, puts a lot of balls in play,.

778

:

So those are two of their better hitters.

779

:

They do have some other ones

too, but, Carson Bain and Thad

780

:

Ector are two names that you

absolutely want to keep your eye on.

781

:

CB: Charlotte is always there.

782

:

They've been extremely competitive.

783

:

Like I said, they've been a very

good Measuring stick for us.

784

:

They have been pretty even they

tend to be um, uh litigious when you

785

:

play them Woodard loves, going and

talking to the umpires about things.

786

:

Um, so that's you know, that's just his

style He likes to do some stuff, which we

787

:

had some of that gamesmanship in our game

yesterday So there that depends on the

788

:

situation, you know, sometimes you got to

do it Sometimes you got to tell the umpire

789

:

like hey This guy's licking his fingers.

790

:

Uh, that, that happened

yesterday in the Rutgers game.

791

:

We made sure we kind of let him know

and then that is certain that was

792

:

that if you were watching the game or

if you're at the game yesterday, the

793

:

Rutgers, the one kid would not, the

lefty would not stop licking his fingers.

794

:

Um, the umpire finally had to yell at

him and say, Hey, you cannot do that.

795

:

It will be a block.

796

:

And he was all out of sorts after that.

797

:

Um to the point where he did it again gave

up a walk to hunter cold because of it And

798

:

then had to come out of the game, I guess

because he I don't know if he was saying

799

:

I think he was bleeding or something.

800

:

Whatever, He got in a bad habit of

the moisture thing Um, but yes, but

801

:

anyway, that's so that I would expect

some kind of something along the way

802

:

There'll be there will be some long

break where the the unc head coach

803

:

is uh, The unc I I I went to us.

804

:

I went to charlotte back in

uh, like 99 to Oh two or so.

805

:

So I still call it unc charlotte in my

head because it was just The uncc is

806

:

predating just calling it charlotte.

807

:

So i'm old school on that one Um,

but I graduated from ultimate.

808

:

I love ultimate much more.

809

:

Uh, so I will have no problem.

810

:

There will be no issues here

811

:

Gary: I, uh, I, I just go in, uh, I

think I call Charlotte now the scene

812

:

of the famous toastery incident.

813

:

I think I'm just going

to leave it at that.

814

:

Um, because that's, that's all

that that was down there a couple

815

:

months ago, but a couple of things

I just want to see from ODU both.

816

:

through East Carolina.

817

:

No, we're gonna face a great team

there and obviously a really good

818

:

team with Charlotte over the weekend.

819

:

We're only hitting about 2 16 as a team

right now with a 3 47 on base percentage.

820

:

If we're gonna play the small ball, we

absolutely have to see those numbers

821

:

go up, have more games like Sunday

and then say Friday and then the

822

:

first part of the game on Saturday.

823

:

6 41 O.

824

:

P.

825

:

S.

826

:

That needs to go up as well.

827

:

Only have nine extra

base hits on the season.

828

:

Four home runs, five doubles.

829

:

So I think a few more gappers, a few

more balls into the outfield, uh, in

830

:

terms of singles, doubles, triples.

831

:

Uh, I would love to, to see some

of those bats come together.

832

:

Some of those guys that

have been scuffling a little

833

:

bit to start the season.

834

:

We'd love to see them get that

opportunity to break out a little

835

:

bit here in Charlotte with hopefully

some better weather at home.

836

:

CB: I was looking at the weather today for

the next few weeks, we might let's enjoy

837

:

tuesday Um, hopefully we'll just think

happy thoughts because it was making me

838

:

depressed looking at the weather forecast,

but that's also, you know, things change.

839

:

So hopefully we'll, hopefully

we'll have a good time.

840

:

And like I said, tomorrow

should be great weather.

841

:

And then hopefully for

the weekend, we'll, we'll

842

:

figure it

843

:

Gary: And I would encourage fans to.

844

:

Definitely come to the bud this year.

845

:

We've got a lot of home games, especially

early in the season, because if the

846

:

plans and the timeline stays the same,

there will not be games at the bud.

847

:

Next year, we're probably going

to do a lot of road trips.

848

:

Uh, we're going to be playing some

at Harbor park over at war Memorial.

849

:

So the bud may not be a place

you get to go to next year.

850

:

And we've been through that in

:

851

:

We're not able to go to games

and it wasn't a whole lot of fun.

852

:

Uh, so just keep that in mind,

especially as the weather gets better.

853

:

Get over the butt.

854

:

If you can show the team, some support,

head over to rally alley, see Liz,

855

:

get some, get some beverages in you.

856

:

It's a great environment

to watch a baseball game.

857

:

CB: Liz, I can now remember

Liz's name of the day.

858

:

I felt so bad.

859

:

She's like the best

860

:

person on the planet.

861

:

Gary: I'm hoping to have koozies available

for her by the Northeastern series.

862

:

If it's not that one, it will definitely

be Georgia Southern, but we'll have some

863

:

koozies to give away to all of our fans

down there to come free with your beer.

864

:

So definitely just.

865

:

head over to the bud.

866

:

I've had a blast getting down there

a little bit more this year and

867

:

enjoying some things, even if it

means running off to to Chartway

868

:

afterwards for a basketball game.

869

:

And I would also tell fans too, if you're

staying in the Norfolk area after the

870

:

baseball game, head over to Chartway.

871

:

Women's basketball is

playing Georgia Southern.

872

:

They're in a spot where if they win.

873

:

Uh, there'll be one of the top four seeds

and they set up a game to decide the

874

:

third seed on Friday against hated JMU.

875

:

So a lot of good stuff going on with

ODU sports right now on, on top of

876

:

a big news day for ODU men's hoops.

877

:

CB: Yeah, my plan, tomorrow and

Friday is, uh, rush out of work as

878

:

fast as I possibly can, catch the

end of the baseball game, and then

879

:

head over to the women's basketball.

880

:

I've been going to women's basketball

games with my parents for the last,

881

:

you know, eight, ten years, and

I love watching the women's team.

882

:

They're extremely exciting.

883

:

So, yeah, please watch it.

884

:

Definitely come out of the book.

885

:

This is the baseball podcast,

but uh, go and support od women's

886

:

basketball They've been phenomenal.

887

:

They're extremely exciting to watch

888

:

Gary: Yeah.

889

:

And don't sell yourself short, Stevie.

890

:

You've become a celebrity with the

ODU women's basketball team because

891

:

the pictures and some of the videos

and stuff that you've gotten it,

892

:

they show on the Jumbotron and

get super hyped on for Instagram.

893

:

So you're a local

celebrity there for coach.

894

:

Schmilton Jones's squad.

895

:

CB: I did not know that but

896

:

that's cool

897

:

Gary: Awesome.

898

:

Well, did we miss anything CB?

899

:

Like, I feel like we covered

everything the best we could for

900

:

a one in three weekend without

getting too down in the dump.

901

:

So hat tip to the boys for pulling

902

:

CB: i'm, sure

903

:

Gary: do it

904

:

CB: Yeah, I'm sure a parent will tell

me at some point I missed something,

905

:

but I, I, your, your child is great.

906

:

I'm a big fan of all of them.

907

:

No, I, I'm, you know, they're really

good kids and, you know, it was a

908

:

tough week, but we're going to get,

they're going to get right back on

909

:

the horse and they're going to fight.

910

:

And, uh, we, we got a week

here with opportunity.

911

:

We're going to play two really strong

programs and hopefully come out of

912

:

here and get some wins and, and have

a good time and see some baseball.

913

:

So I'm, I'm as always extremely excited

to get to watch ODU baseball this week.
